Dear All

I'm hoping someone can give me some advice on where to stay in York.  I am wanting to go in the Oct half term if the weather stays nice, with my two children aged 3 and 12.  I would like a site close to York city or somewhere with some nice walking/bike routes to York and other areas.  I would also like a site with lovely facilities and children's play areas.  Also, my 12 year old has recently taken up fishing so maybe near a river too.

Looking forward to your replies.

You probably would need to find sites that are open all year round as the Oct half term doesn't start till Oct 29th (well it does here) and some sites close on the 31st, but saying that they probably would stay open for the week seeing as it half term!

See the Site Search facility on here - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=york&by=town.  Hope this helps.

Hello Clare, why don't you try York Caravan Park (http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=6567)

It's only 2 miles from the city centre - easy to cycle to, or you could get the bus that stops directly outside! Nearby is a public bridleway called 'The Millennium Way' - which is good for walks with the children and pets. There's also Monks Cross Shopping Park - shops, supermarkets, swimming pool & slides etc.

The river foss is just under 2 miles away, our own fishing lake will be ready to be fished next year though unfortunately

There is a large grassed area for children to play games, and a brand new toilet & shower block. All pitches are VERY large (approx 13m x 20m), and they are fully serviced (16A electric, water, digital TV and drains).

It is a brand new site, not many people know aout us yet, so only has a couple of reviews. p.s. we are open until 6th November.

Hiya

Weve been  to Naburn Lock site a few times. There a bus stop outside the park that takes you directly too and from York. Or theres the river boat that runs next to the park if you want to travel in style. Very scenic.

The toilets/showers are huge and clean. Pitches flat and generous. Shop well stocked. Owners friendly and helpful. We were booked to go on the boat once and the site owner got on their bike, peddled off, and told the boat owner to wait til we got there!

Not sure when its open til but i think its November. Sorry i dont know how to do a link but itll be in the reviews bit.

Hope that helps

Kim

Naburn Lock is fine BUT is prone to flooding at times.just a thought if you decide to go there.

Nephew came to see me the other day and he was raving about Naburn Lock he has a kyak and they paddled up the river to the pub!! There is a "River Bus" into York as well and you are near the off road cycle track into York. Sounds ideal for you although to be fair I have never been myself.

Great thanks for all your replies - I'm going to look into all your options.  It's turning cold already though so I hope the sunshine comes out for October!

There is also the Rowntrees site which is within walking distance of the centre of York.

Not surprised you have to book Rowntree so far in advance, it's a BRILLIANT site!

Stayed there in June this year, had to book last December!!!

Keep trying, it's well worth it!
