Hi everybody need advice where there is a cheap place to site van for most of the year for a price around 250 , then pay for when we stay, ive heard that this a normal in many places, i would love a site with a pool near a beach etc..
I went away this weekend with the wife and we both agreed that this option is the best for us and for the kids.thanks....

Well around here you would pay £1500 a year for a seasonal pitch on average. Some sites do storage and then tow you onto a pitch when you wish to go to your van. There is often a tow on/off fee and then you pay your nightly rate. This is what we have been doing but next year we are seasonal.
Hi not really sure somewhere close to devon for the seaeast side, also i was chatting to a guy that leaves his for 250 a year then pays site fee's when he wants to stay...
Yes for £250 you won't get a seasonal pitch in Devon. I believe 4 sites have stopped doing it next season and so getting a pitch is nigh on impossible.
To be honest £250 would be cheap for storage too, it is more like £350 - £400. As I said they store your van in a compound and tow it out when you want it.
Ali, please ensure if you are posting details of a site, please ensure you link to their UKCampsite.co.uk listing, not direct to their website, to enable reviews etc to be read
Many thanks
Ian
We stayed at Oakdown, near Sidmouth in East Devon the week before last and I got talking to a bloke who was on a seasonal pitch.
He told me he had paid £1800.00 for his pitch and that was from mid March until sometime in November. For this the caravan is permanently sited on a full service pitch and he and his family come and go as they please with no extra charges.
He has two grown-up married daughters with kids and they use it several times during this period as does he and his wife. He reckoned that on this basis he was ahead of the game when comparing this with package holidays etc. From where I'm sitting the only people to come out of this ahead are the daughters. Apparently there's no contribution forthcoming from them.
My feeling is that the whole point of having a tourer is to go to different places. If you're not going to do this you might just as well book statics.

Sorry Webby, was posting quickly as going out the door and forgot to link one of them to the UKCS linking. Wrist duly slapped!

Hi it's just we spoke to certain people not having it on site all the time just when we wanted to use it there, and sums were around 250 pounds and then ofcourse what you pay to stay there aslong as there is space etc, we cannot afford 1800 pounds, as we have heard that someone does this i was hopeing that this web site forum would be the best place for the info....thanks...
I have extensively researched this area of the country for seasonal pitches in recent years and haven't found anywhere where you can leave your van on a pitch for that amount of money Spears. I am really sorry I can't be of further help but in Devon pitches are at a premium and I can't think of anywhere where you could do that.
Ask your friends the name of the site perhaps? I am pretty sure they would have been talking about storage on site and a tow on/tow off service.
alongside it is a campsite...storage is approx £350 a year and then you pay to have your hols/weekends there then..not sure if its discounted for storage customers...and i think they tow your van out for you...
thats about the only thing i can think about :O)

Hi all, i can say that i was assuming that the fee to store etc was the same evey where, sorry new to caravanning, i would like to find a site like in bury port swansea people were great but the site toilets etc were horrible and not very nice smells...I know a person that stays close by near to the place we stayed and they pay 250 for 10 months storage and then site fee;s to stay...so maybe devon is way to expensive and maybe i should look closer to home etc. not sure what to say, thanks for replys ...
Well Devon is not a lot different with storage costs ranging from about £350 ish upwards at most places. Then you pay your site fees when you are on a pitch. Caravan storage is not cheap, if I stored the van where I live it would be £400 a year and that is quite typical in Somerset.
Some people have got great deals on their storage but for most of us it is not a cheap exercise.
