I plan to drag the caravan off to London next thursday for a few nights and would like to stay on the outskirts of London.  I was thinking maybe Slough or surrounding areas, so we can catch the train into London.  We are not in any caravan club and am having difficulties finding a site open into november.  Can anyone help please.

If you use the advanced campsite search you can look for a campsite in a particular area which is open all year.

Why not join one of the Clubs and use their sites.  The CC have 2 quite close in (Crystal Palace and Abbey Wood) so you would save on travel costs too.  The C&CC also have sites around London, and there are also CLs and CSs.

You wont get into either of the CC sites Abbey Wood or Crystal Palace at such short notice ( I know because I just tried it). I must admit I drew a complete blank despite lots of searching over the next two weeks ( I think the christmas lights go on soon). Have ended up going to York instead. I am told the CC site at Abbey Wood is probably the best and most convenient but you typically have to book a good few weeks in advance particularly if your stay involves a Friday or Saturday.

You could try ringing CC in a couple of days to check if they have a cancellation, just might be lucky.

regards

John

PS noticed a site in Harlow which is on the fast Stanstead line in and seems to be open. You will find it in the campsite search, it seems to have mixed reviews?

The caravan and camping club have one at Chertsey that sounds quite nice and is just a train ride into London, not sure about availability though......

If you ring Abbey Wood I bet you'll get in.

35 mins on 'Southeastern' into Charring Cross and only a 10 min. stroll to the station.
