My family and I (Which consists of My wife and I and our 2 daughters Lydia who is 6 and phoebe who is 2) have just purchased our first caravan this year and cannot wait to get away next year. The only trouble is we cannot deceide which site to choose. we like nice beaches in a relatively quiet area(no tacky gift shops and amusement arcades) obviously we like sites with other kids on. We fancy Devon/Cornwall area and may be one or two overnight stops on the way as we are coming from the north east. Any advice would be received with gratitude.

Hi Garry, we like the beach and coastline at Eyemouth. Don't let the Park Resort title fool you, i dislike them, but this one is different. It's on a cliff top a short walk down to the beach and the village hasn' changed for 50 years. Not a candy floss in sight and the children can feed the seals.

There is a lovely site Blue anchour bay near minehead right opposit the beach, it has a indoor s/pool, shop/ cafe. but no club or arcades, i think it is a Hobourne park.

Why wait until next year. Find a site nearer home and go for a weekend.  Caravans are for using all year.

If I were you I would plan a three week break.  There is just too much to see and do in Cornwall.  Two weeks is just not enough, especially if you are travelling from the North.

As for breaks on the journey down, Cheddar Gorge is a must to see as is Wookey Hole.  Dunster Castle, near Minehead is also very pleasant to visit.  Once you hit mid-Cornwall nowhere is more than 1 1/2 drive away, for a day out.

Mevagissy is worth a visit, if you want to see an unspoilt Cornish village.

Looe is particularly nice, but a bit commercialised.

St Ives and Penzance are my favourites.  We have had some absolutely great holidays there.

Have a look at Sennan Cove.  There is a caravan site there.  Kynance Cove for absolute beauty.  For really interesting days out, try the Eden Project and Goonhilly

Hope this helps, but I am sure you will have a great holiday in any case.
