Hi - we had a great time over there - about 10 years ago, lovely coast and the weather was good. Don't think we found a poor site - but can no longer remember the names - sorry.
But I feel sure you'll have a great holiday.

But itīs all right now, I learned my lesson well.

Geographically, Northern Ireland does not have a west coast! Anything west of Northern Ireland would be Counties Donegal or Sligo both on the west coast of Ireland. Hope that makes sense. Is there a particular area you are interested in?
Beat me to it Al! Shimsham, Donegal is the most northerly county in Ireland but it's in the Repulic of Ireland, confusing! My OH comes from a village called Rosbeg which is right on the Donegal coast, nearest town is Ardara. There is a caravan site, Tramore Beach, with great views but not great facilities so best if you have your own.
If you DID mean N. Ireland, then the farthest site west on the coast that I can think of is Benone Tourist Complex near limavady http://www.discovernorthernireland.com/product.aspx?ProductID=8199 . It's not the West coast though, its the Western end of the North Coast.
Leo's is where Enya and Clannad started out, he is Enya's dad (and dad/uncle to some of Clannad I believe). A good night out but we didn't eat there so can't advise on the food.
Further south in Donegal, there are great Wednesday night sessions at a pub in Dunkineely (can't remember the name, but there aren't many), not far from Killybegs but the nearest caravan site I think would be either at Rosbeg or Ballyshannon. When we went there we were staying in a cottage half way up a mountain between Ardara and Dunkineely.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Hi Colin, yes I remember. Did you go there? The site at Rosbeg would be no use to you then. There are 2 sites at Portnoo in the same area, mainly statics although I think one takes tourers, don't know the names though. It's flat there and overlooks a lovely beach.
Hi anne. Yes we went round the ring of kerry like you advised anti-clockwise, we stayed at mannix point we had a great time although the weather was not to good [ wet & windy] we did like carolls cove the other side catherdaniel, we used mannix point has a base to explore the dingle etc.
We are going for 2 weeks in may next year we would like to go county mayo and donegal then we shall head back down to mannix point again and coming back through rosslare, so any help on co.mayo/ donegal woul much appreciated.
Hi Colin, glad you enjoyed it, pity about the weather.
For a start, DO NOT stay at the site at Westport, Co. Mayo, unless you want to pay through the nose. We went there in 2004 and they were asking EUR39 per night! We drove south and found a site right under Croagh Patrick (the pilgrimage mountain) for EUR15 which was perfectly acceptable and is flat. Fairly basic but has EHU and facilities. It's a bit out of the way but easy to tour around from there. Can't remember the name, sorry.
I would advise you taking the ferry one way from Stranraer to Larne and go to Donegal first, Sleepy Hollows site at Crolly might be your best bet as it's central. Then go to Mayo, then Kerry and back as you say via Rosslare. You would really need to spend a night on a site half way between Leics and Stranraer.

StrandHill near Sligo is on the west coast and the site is right on a beautiful beach. Some of the pitches are practically in the dunes. Strandhill itself is a lovely village with a couple of pubs, restaurants, a pizza takeaway, little cafe overlooking the beach, 2 surf schools and a place you can take seaweed baths! I think theres a couple of reviews on the reviews page. The village sits in the shadow of Knocknarea mountain, supposedly the burial place of Queen Maeve. very picturesque.

Hi shimsham here is a link for caravan sites in the north west of ireland.

Benone would be a good start, you can drive onto the beach with the car.
Knockalla in Donegal is nice and is close to a blue flag beach.
Lakeside in Ballyshannon would make a good base for touring around and has disable facilities.
Lough Arrow in Sligo,I can definately recommend, good site in a nice quiet area and its an adult only site
