Happy New Year to all campers ... may 2008 be a little kinder with the weather!

Can anyone recommend a site on the South Coast (Dorset/Hampshire) which accepts bookings for several young families camping together? We have a group of school families who camp together for a week but had problems last year in getting sites to accept more than four units at a time. I understand this is good practise to keep unruly groups at bay but we are respectable families just wanting our children to experience the outdoor life and have fun in safety.

Looking preferably for a site with play facilities, pool an advantage but with space and cycle tracks. Clean shower blocks essential (for the ladies) and well-drained, grassy pitches for our tents.

UK Campsite, ... keep up the good work, much appreciated.

Colin.

Hi, you could try Wareham Forest Tourist Park.It is in Wareham Forest itself so plenty of cycle trails and forest walks, there is a play area and an outdoor pool. I know they do not normally take group bookings or they didn't when my husband and I used to be assistant wardens there, but perhaps if you give them a ring and explain, who knows?  It is a fabulous site and you are able to camp on the edge of the forest if you wish. Read the reviews in the review section.

Try Sandy Balls, we booked four pitches last year but had to speak to the manager first. She was Ok about it when she knew it was mixed gender and age groups. I think they are more concerned if it is gruops of young adults. They also have a campsite in the woods that the scouts and guides use, this may be worth asking about?

We went with 4 other families to Croft Cottage in Fordingbridge.  If you have x8 you will probably fill the sight.  It is very basic, but has Sandy Balls next door if you want more facilites.  There is a volley ball and badmington net in the center of the sight which was great fun for all and the owner gave the kids horse rides on the sunday morning.

Sandford Holiday Park, nr Poole (Parkdean Holidays). We have stayed here 3 times, can get quite busy but has plenty of things for the kids to do. New toilet block is clean with under floor heating, we have always asked to be sited near to this. Site entertainment is very good and staff always friendly.
