certified location and certified site - they are sites that can take up to 5 units. The facilities will vary from site to site but the standards should still be good

Hi, A CL is a certified location and is run in conjunction with the caravan club, The CS is a certified location and is a caravan and camping club site, Both are very similar and should offer at the very least a water supply and waste disposal. You can also find them with full facilities and obviously prices vary accordingly. You need to be a member of the relevant club to use them normally but you can find some great little sites for as little as £4 a night.

Yup as said, cheap and cheerful sites, often a piece of paddock or a farmer's field.   There is a scheme under planning regs that allows clubs like the Caravan Club and the C&CC to permit these sites (for their members only) that can take a maximum of 5 vans and/or motorhomes and as then many tents as they can fit in.

Facilities are often basic as they are more often aimed at vanners who have onboard loo's and showers.

The C&CC site have an online section for certified sites, it links into maps so you see an aerial view of the site and area which I think is fab! Site seeker

If you like back to basics camping these are the places to start, if you want entertainment and whizzy facilities these are unlikely to be for you.

CLs and CSs are, to us, a great and relatively cheap, way of camping. We are members of both clubs but have never stayed on any of their big sites, we much prefer the smaller CLs and CSs. We stayed on one in the Yorkshire Dales in October 06, it was just a small, neatly mown field at the back of a farm, with a few electric points, fresh water tap and waste diposal, river at the bottom for fishing and views to die for. Last September we stayed on one in Suffolk, it was actually part of the gardens of a large house, and had electric points, fresh water, waste disposal, toilets and showers, and even an open-air pool for warmer weather. It was in the middle of nowhere and the peace and tranquility was absolute heaven. It only cost £7 per night including electric for two adults, campervan, awning, and two dogs. Bear in mind that you have to be a member of one of the clubs to be able to use these sites, but as long as you don't expect anything all-singing all-dancing they are a great way of camping.
