Hi folks,

I’m having a bit of bother planning our fortnight away for this coming June/July time. Last year we  stayed in Yorkshire, Cumbria, Lockerbie, Wirral and Brecon Beacons (During all that rain!!). This year I fancy trying the Highlands and I want to incorporate my hobby which is watching and photographing wildlife, especially birds (the feathered variety!)

We stayed at Low Manesty CC site for a few days last year and this was incredible for birds and red squirrels. Can anyone recommend sites very close to wildlife areas that they have visited.

Kindest regards

Nigel

Nigel

We combine all of our camping trips with wildlife watching.  If you fancy Scotland again, I would recommend the Aviemore area we stayed at Rothiermurchas, red squirrels on site. We put up a bird feeder and had loads of birds feeding right outside the caravan window, including Crested Tit.  Near the site is Loch Garten for the Osprey, there is also a garden centre sorry can't remember the name, with a tea room that over looks huge and well uses bird feeders. While there we also went to a hide run by Speyside wildlife to see badgers and pine martens. Up the road to Moray Firth for dolphins and if you can get in Aegis for beavers, the place featured in the recent TV prog with Johnny Kingdom.  Then there is the Isle of Mull, heaven on earth as far as we are concerned. Otters, golden eagle and white tailed sea eagle. If you go there I would recommend taking a wildlife safari with David Woodhouse, he will show the wildlife and how to find it.  http://www.torrbuan.com/frames.htm  Both places are good for red deer. In the south there is the New Forest not so many species to see but still a great place. Hope that helps.

Hi Nigel

Yes we stayed on at Balmeanach Park http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3887, but the Sheilings which is very close to the ferry at Craignure also looks good.  Some people who stayed there while we were at the other site in October were able to see dolphins in the bay from their van. But that would be luck of the draw.

If you decide to go give send me an e-mail or attention of and I will give you a list of places where we have seen various birds and animals, but I really would recommend David. It is thanks to him that we are now so successful looking for wildlife on our own .

Hi Valerie,

I tried to email you several times but all were returned. I would love a list of places to see wildlife that would be brilliant, thank you. We will also try David and when we know our exact dates, we will book up with him it sounds great.

Love your website by the way, great pictures.

Kindest regards

Nigel
