All the beaches around the Brean area are alright for sand but no good for the water.  The tide is miles out and can be a bit quicksandy near the water.

Brean sands isn't it?

More like Brean mud!!

You'll probably be given a leaflet when you arrive all about how dangerous it is at low tide, as there are places where you really are in danger of sinking.

For just playing in the sand at the top of the beach it's fine, but going onto the exposed sand/mud at low tide is out. And bathing in the water during safe times will get you muddy.

And then there's the wind...

I'm not a fan of the place, can you tell?

However, it is very popular, I'm just not sure why...

They can be dangerous.  The sandy area is fine but you would be wise to stay in the drier area rather than the muddy/quicksand area which is covered by water when the tide is in.

We often hear about people having to be rescued by the hovercraft.  One little girl got stuck in the mud and drowned.  It was after that tragic event that money was raised to buy the hovercraft.

I live in Somerset and apart from a winter walk would not entertain the beaches up there.  They are just not nice, we call them "mud by the sea" lol and like other posters I cannot understand the attraction of this area one bit!

Much better beaches in South or North Devon or Dorset around Swanage and Studland.   Studland is fantastic, very safe bathing.

If you want a lovely sandy beach what about

West Bay, Dorset

Woolacombe, North Devon

Weymouth, Dorset

To name just a few of the lovely beaches there are around the Country

I guess this isn't what you asked for but, if you fancy a site with a great beach but not in Somerset, try Pentewan sands in cornwall, it's right on the beach, dog free & briliant for kids. Have a peep at their website.

Pentewan Sands certainly has it all,  crammed in like sardines, unruly teenagers wandering about til all hours, with all associated problems.  If you want a decent nights sleep try River Valley at London Apprentice , beautiful peaceful site and only 2 miles to coast, handy base for other beaches in area too, Caerhays is far better than Pentewan in my opinion , as are many other beaches in the area.

im in Devon, come down here or Cornwall if you want a decent beach.

Everyone else is right - beaches in Somerset arent nice, muddy water, and dangerous at times with the sinking sand.

Holiday Resort Unity in itself is a nice site and we will be going back. The beech was ok our kids played in the sand dunes and we were able to park on the beach. We werent overly keen on the beach so we have booked on of the Woolacombe Bay parks (Twitchen). The beaches there are excellent.
