Hi

I'm continuing our search of places to go on our summer hols, heading SW. we planned to stop off at Tewkesbury last year but unfortunately the area was flooded. I have never been to Tewkesbury so if anyone knows anything about the area i'd be grateful for info and opinions. I have searched the campsites and there are a few to choose from, the CC club one looks OK  but I have'nt checked out all of them yet.

  Cheers  Rosie

The c/club one is in the best position for the town ,exept of course if it  floods, but all the other sites in the erea are in the same BOAT if you pardon the pun, seriusly though it is a lovely area and only a short drive into the cotswolds.or slimbridge wildfowl trust. we love the place,

We have stayed at Tewkesbury CC site a few times and its great, shadowed by tewkesbury abbey and a walk into town, Also greta base for touring cheltenham, gloucester, cotswolds etc and literally 5 minutes of Junction 9  of M5,

There are plenty of sites around there, really depends what you want, The winchcombe site (C & CC) also looks great although we have not stayed there yet.

WE have stopped on the CC site at Tewkesbury several times, it's a very handy site for a break when going down south. We were there at the end of June last year just before the area was flooded, we had only been set up about an hour when the warden came around warning everyone that they were on flood alert and giving a sheet out to tell people how to get off the site if the main access road was flooded. He said that they were checking the water levels in the park every half hour and that there would be plenty of warning if there was going to be a problem. As it turned out the waters went down that night. But looking at the pictures that were on the TV when the town did flood, there were no caravans flooded on the site itself, just what looked to be the wardens vans parked up in the dry by the side of the toilet block which is the highest point of the site.

It's a nice site, very close to the town ( about 200 yds ) set in a lovely park just behind the Abbey.

We love this site for a stop over when we go to Sidmouth.  Had to change last year due to floods but have risked a booking this year as we really do like it.  If they are unfortunate to get flooded again we will change nearer to time but for now fingers crossed it will be ok.

We too would HIGHLY recommend this fantastic site.  We stayed there (for one night only) last year on the way to the Lakes & Scotland from Cornwall.  Everything about it was great.  We had a fab pitch overlooking the Abbey (I'll try and attached my photo below!).  It'w within easy walking distance of the town and River Severn.  We loved it so much we're going back again in September this year and have already booked our pitch!  Enjoy!

The emergency exit from the site is through a gate at the back of the site onto a housing estate. Plenty of flood warning is given.

During the big easter floods about 10 years ago, we watched a helicopter rescuing people from the campsite. We were sat in the living room at the time!!
