We are thinking about the isle of wight this summer - first time there with a tent.
I have read all the site reviews on this board several times over - and am confused! Quite a few reviewers say 'would not return here during peak season and too busy/not enough showers' . Unfortunately we are restricted to school holidays so.... any help choosing a site would be appreciated.
We do not want lots of entertainment - but would ideally like a swimming pool and most importantly clean facilities.

We went to the Orchards a couple of years ago in may half term. Very nice sight. country views. Good clean showers/loos. Nice staff. reasonable prices in on-site shop. outdoor pool, indoor pool (on the small side though1) Al in all would reccommend this site!
We are staying at nodes point park resorts site. Had good reviews on the search but is a lively site. Wouldn't be our first choice normally but we are going with friends who would like entertainment etc.
If we went on our own we would piick either camping and caravanning club site at adgestone or ninham country holidays. Both have outdoor pools and fishing. Reviews both look good on the campsite search.

Orchards should be good - isn't it an "Managed Under Contract" site of the Caravan Club?
Must confess we thought the pitches looked a bit close together when we recced it in November 2007. Thought it could be a bit ramjam full and not very nice in high season.
We went to Orchards last summer and the space is adequate and facilities are good but OH wasnt over impressed with the showers, but i didn`t find them too bad, would go again but been reccommended Southlands so i am gonna try there this year but it hasn`t got thas many facilities as Orchards.
Southlands is an excellent site and spotlessly clean. I have been there on a couple of occasions, but I would suggest that as there are no on site facilities for children, then The Orchards, which I have also been to, would be a good choice although I do agree that the pitches are a bit close together. Have you thought of trying Adgestone C and C C site. I have not stayed there but have visited and it may be ideal for you

We have stayed at languard camp site in Shanklin right next to park resorts lower hyde camp, which i now believe they have joined. good facilitys and outdoor pool.and just a 5 min walk into town.
We stayed at the Orchards in 2006 for a fortnight. Some of the caravan pitches were quite small, but the tent pitches were well spaced. Quite a few pitches are sloping.
Other than that, the facilities were very good. The Orchards is at the very quiet/unspoiled end of the Isle, so there is a bit of a trek between the site and the supermarkets, visitor attractions and the 'resorts'.
However, whilst staying we took a trip over to the C&CC Site at Adgestone (sp?) and thought it was nicer in many ways and was certainly nearer to a lot of what the Isle has to offer to holidaymakers.
I love Ninham. We have been several times and only once in mid August. The loos and showers then were OK but not many of them for a full site. After 10 days I got a bit sick of queues and although they looked clean I can remember thinking OMG how many peeps have used this shower before me kind of thing!!! We have since been several times in June 06 and 07 ( maybe 08 as well) and find the facilities more than adequate and spotless. We dont know whether its just they cant cope in peak season or whether it is now under new management!! Anyone else been to Ninham in August since 2005?
What I love about this site in June and August is the space. Bewtween pitches, the size of the pitched and the space they leave open in the middle of the fields - they certainly DO NOT cram you in at all here. Lovely pool, fishing and games room!!!
Perhaps someone else who has been in August more recently could comment on the showers.

we stayed at waverley this year after reading good reviews on this forum never again, the site smelt of rotting seaweed and i wouldnt have used the pool if my life depended on it there was thick green scum all around it for the whole 2 weeks we were there in august, weather was awful need i go on.my advice cross the channel and go to france or spain.better weather cheaper sites
Thanks for all the suggestions - looked at all the reviews for these sites - and really like the look of the ninham site. Great that the supermarket is within walking distance. A bit concerned that not enough showers/loos to cope with numbers in August - however most IOW sites seem to be a bit like this in peak season.
I am shocked by the ferry prices for such a short journey! - will definitely try to use tescos vouchers.
Now have to try and persuade rest of family to try a new destination!
