Hi Makins
We used to have a seasonal pitch for the same kind of reason and it worked perfectly. Our caravan was pitched -the only thing we had to do when we got there was plug the leccy in and fill the water bottle.
We lived in NE (near Blaydon) at the time and had the caravan in the Scottish Borders - it took around 1 hour 20 mins which was a perfect distance. There was a thread on here about seasonals last week or so - maybe have a search.
As for cost - its about 5 years since we did it - would think about £900-1000 for the full season.
We loved it - if you get a site with a few other seasonals it can be quite social. Our pitches used to be that there was a two pitch gap between each seasonal pitch so you always got chatting to tourers as well.
