I would imagine that most people with a knowledge of Scotland or Scottish history have heard of Blair Atholl.

We stayed at campsite in Blair Atholl last Easter and it was great. Two campsites there - we stayed at Blair Castle site , there is another one but cannot remember the name. Had a look at it, wasn't as impressed as the one we were at.

Lots of walks direct from campsite and surrounding area. Quick walk to pubs. Handy for exploring whole Perthshire area and further afield.

The other one is River Tilt I think.  Blair Atholl is a lovely place, one of our favourites.

We usually use the Blair Castle site.

Lovely place, we've stayed at both the campsites mentioned before, although the last couple of times we've been we stayed at the Atholl Arms hotel which was fab!!....

A few miles from Pitlochry, where you go past Killiecrankie and the "soldiers leap".
Has fabulous castle with own army and beautiful grounds.  Also on a main train line so if you don't feel like driving you can use the train - we went up to Inverness for the day and had a great time.

Has a chippie\pizza place in the park, where they have set out tables so you eat on the river bank. The guy who has it is very friendly.

Never been there but I remember about 10 years ago a TV series 'A Year in the Glen' About the life of the gamekeeper on the Blair Atholl Estate.  Very Interesting.

We have been regular visitors to this site over the years, it's a fantastic site and the views are wonderful. Have a look at the reviews and that will tell you what peoples thoughts are. We love it, it's not too far from Pitlochry(5-10 minutes in the car) and the local pubs(especially the Atholl Arms) are excellent and only a 2 minute walk from the entrance to the site.

I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Jamsie

We have been there 3 times camping with the motorcycle club. The times we went in May they had the highland games then. The Duke of Atholl was alive at the time so don't know if they carry on. Lovely part of the country.

The annual games are still held at Blair Castle at the end of May.

There is still a Duke of Atholl, although he does not live there permanently.
