We (well, I, so far) are thinking of staying here for a couple of nights on the way back from Mull in the summer. Are there any places to eat or drink nearby or should I forget that and buy in some supplies? Is there tv reception there?
thanks
Anne

Nothing really in staggering distance, about 4 miles from CC&C possibly 3 from Forest hols, the nearest is called (if I remember correctly) Ben Arthur's Bothy in Arrochar. Food is good, plain cooking but cheap enough with a selection of local beers & a good atmosphere.Site, (CC&C) seems to hold water even tho' it is right next to the loch (bullrushes growing in between hardstandings etc) which leads to midges by the million in the season, & showers etc. have seen better days. However it is a seriously beautiful spot-if you got a dry spell out of Midge season you could really enjoy the views. Can't really remember about tv reception so musn't have been really bad, but spent most of the evenings in the awning anyway. If you decide to stock up with supplies it is along way to a supermarket (at least when you are used to one every couple of miles it is) which I suppose is part of the beauty & unspoilt feel of Scotland.
You're right Bernard - pub is called Ben Arthur's Bothy in nearest village of Arrochar. We were camping at the CCC site at Ardgarten last Sept. And, yes, very very wet underfoot! Fantastic place though. The loch is literally a stone's throw away. Site in middle of forest and surrounded by "mountains". Sadly, Arrohar is a good 4 mile walk each way and pretty dark as soon as sun goes down. We did the walk a couple of times, went in car a couple of times. Dogs allowed in bar which was a big bonus for us. Don't know where next nearest pub is .... we didn't want to walk any further and it must have been miles away from Arrochar. There is a kind of general store in the village, newsagent, teashop - thinks thats about it. We took all supplies with us. Had to venture out in middle of holiday and went to nearest town which is Helensburgh - loads of shops there but didn't see a big supermarket. We needed a heater while there and had to go almost into Glasgow!
No midges around last Sept (think they were all drowned!!)
cheers, Janice
