Is it just me, or are these few and far between? We need electric hook up for a tent. Either they haven't got it, or won't let you book it in advance (?).
We don't like sites that are like holiday parks with clubhouse etc.
We aren't members of the caravan and camping club.
This seems to rule out almost all the sites. We went to Highburn House last year, which was OK but not brilliant, and we fancied a change this year.

Any ideas anyone?

You could try  http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=5974 . It depends on how far North into Northumberland you want to go , I suppose.

Thanks for the Springhills link J&T. I was put off by the reviews on that one-it sounds really exposed. Our tent's a wynnster mallard-not sure it could take it and the worrying could finish me off!
Clennel Hall http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=3700 looks perfect but the reviews are atrocious!
The best suited by far is Procter's Stead http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2172 but she refused point blank to let me book hook up in advance last year as it was BH and she might be busy? I will try again as it will be summer holidays this year, not BH.
Unfortunately, hubby needs hookup for a medical reason so we can't go without it.

Your welcome Daisytent. If you are into walking, there are some of the best beach walks anywhere in the UK along that stretch of coast, clean and unspoilt,  as well as some of the friendliest people I have ever met. Dont forget to try the Craster Kippers. Maybe if you explain your medical needs the site owner should, IMHO, allow you to pre-book a hook-up.

I'd discounted Ord House as being too big, but reading the reviews, it looks like it has its quiet spots.

We visited Craster last time we were in Northumberland. The walk from there to Dunstanburgh castle was absolutely beautiful.
You'd think so about the hook up wouldn't you? But I explained all that, offered to pay caravan rate, up front, everything, but she wasn't having it. I can't see why it matters who has your hook ups as long as they're paid for.

If you want to be near the coast have you looked here. Never stayed here yet, but its on the list.

If you want to go more inland, the Caravan Club site at Kielder is lovely. (and no you don't need to be a member - we went in a tent).

hi

i live in northumberland and it annoys me there are so few good sites in such a beautiful place. If you want the coast theres a site at embleton which is a ccc site. This is next to the beach and is quiet but easy access to most things. I have beeen to ord house and liked it. You didnt feel like you were on a large site and the pub on site was fine. We found it to be friendly and the kids loved it. It is quite a way north though!. If you want to be more into the countryside and walks theres less choice.Kielder is good but the midges are aproblem. There is a new site in bellingham which is supposed to be better now run by the c and c club.I am hoping with the improved tourism with hadrians wall that sites near here will improve

I had seen that one, but the reviews are horrific-stinky showers and toilets and a plague of flies! It's C&C club members only too!
Thanks for the suggestion though.

There are 4 reviews and 3 say they would go back

Sorry though didn't realise it was C&CC only.
