We have booked for a long weekend in Chertsey the last weekend in August. OH as just been looking at the site in the Big Sites Book and spotted under the worth noting section the line "Towcars must remain on site overnight due to the possibility of flooding"

Can anyone put our minds at rest as to whether this is likely in August or is it just there to cover their backs. We are going t oa wedding and are likely to be out very late on Saturday night. The car will be staying on site and we will be taxiing or walking to the venue (I'm told it is a 5 minute walk) so even though the car will be on site, we will not.

you would have to be the unluckiest man on the planet ,for it to be a problem ,though you never know with global warming when the ice caps melt we will all grow web feet and fins , seriously though i have been there in august with non stop rain and it has not been anywhere near a problem

I just can't help thinking about Gloucester last July! We were in Somerset a few weeks later and I've never seen such a muddy site.

the river is not across the road its banks are right on the edge of the site , saying that i do not think it flooded last summer with all the rain we had , also a thought, it is the thames that runs by the site ,and is that not controlled by the flood barrier

the river isnt across the road at all. We were there just this weekend gone, and unless its shifted since monday morning, the site is on the bank!!

To be honest, I think you would be ok. If you book a "Super Pitch" you are a fair distance from the river anyway.

Its a beautiful site, We loved it! Check out our review!

We are heading here end of July and have tickets for a theatre in Piccadilly, do you know the best train route from the campsite to somewhere close to Piccadilly. The bus tours also leave from there.

You will be fine I promise.  We have stayed on the site eventhough we only live a few miles up the road near Hampton Court Palace in a timber framed house  right by the Thames.

As someone said you would have to be really unlucky if we were to have flooding during August.

Enjoy the site it is a lovely one

We stayed there end of August last year. Fab site, perfect location! I wouldn't have thought there would be problem unless it was extremely bad weather.

As said previously it is right on the bank, lovely site , one we will return to without a doubt!

The only small downside is the plane noise IMHO!

From what I remember (we stayed there last august) the quickest way into London was to get a train from Chertsey to Weybridge and then change to get a train to Waterloo (where you can pick up the underground). the trains from Chertsey into the city took at lot longer.

As KHWood says you can get a train from Chertsey, but you can also go via Staines (changing there also as train runs between Weybridge & Staines). Trains come back a bit later through Staines rather than through Weybridge. Either way you will need to get a taxi back from Staines / Weybridge as I think the service to Chertsey drops dramatically after 9pm.
