We are thinking of camping near to Loch Lomond in June and was wondering if anybody had any further information or thoughts on Luss and Milarrochy Bay campsites in the area.  We cant decide which one!

Thank you

Jayne

Luss is well placed for visiting the surrounding area.  Milarrochy Bay is on a quite narrow road that stops part way up the Loch, so only one way in/out.  But a great walking area.

Been to Milarrochy Bay once when we had tents, really enjoyed it apart from the midges and as you are right on the waters edge and surrounded by tress you may struggle to avoid them. Apart from that it was a lovely little site with fantastic scenery and very clean.

Can't comment on Luss unfortunately.

We stayed at Luss the year before last, its a lovely clean site. I was a little dissapointed that you could hear road noise from our pitch, but that was the only downside, apart from the midges, be prepared if you go in midge season, i was eaten alive, though the rest of the family barely suffered.

We loved the direct access to the Loch Shore, we had a great time with the kids on an evening skimming stones and feeding the ducks. Its only a short walk into the village from the site, there's a nice little cafe, and the boat tours pick up from the jetty. Plenty to do around and about. We drove to Balloch one day and took the train into Glasgow, it was really easy.

We would definately go there again.

We were assistants on Milarrochy bay and would highly recommend it. Although this was 1990 it can only have got better. Luss is on the busy A8 and noisy. I would certainly go to Milarrochy but be prepared for a very sharp turn up a hill going out of Balmaha. Its easy to get carried away by the scenery and you need to change gear.We were there all summer and I don't remember being bothered too much by the midges.('wee beasties')

One word of caution on both sites,it does'nt take a lot of rain to turn both of these sites into a mudhole. Millarochy can flood in certain areas. Our caravan sank 2 inches on the so called hard standing at Luss and as other poster stated..right next to main road.Fortunately we were in our caravan both times. If the weather is kind, both of these sites can be great. Millrochy is more remote but better suited to tents and no main road running past it....regards john.b.
