It's a good site well up to Camping and Caravanning Club standards but it just didn't do it for me. Depends what you are after, the toilet block is only a couple of years old, there are also full service pitches if you want. I prefer Walton which has no toilet block, just electric hookup.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
It's difficult to put my finger on it. It is a good site, right on the river, good restaurants nearby, reasonably quiet, good amenities, lots of staff. Everything that would add up to a really great place.
But it just didn't do it for me. I've been to every C&CC site in the South East and many elsewhere. Its just that there are other sites that I would prefer to go to.
As I said, Walton would be my preference but 'own sanitation' is essential. If I wanted a shower block etc and not want to travel far from Chertsey I would go to Horsley. Really attractive site with a lake and just off the A3 on the other side of the M25.
I'm off there in August for a long weekend. Going to a wedding nearby. Also booked a few nights in Oxford en route as I always wanted to go there. I was surprised to find the Oxford site cheaper than Chertsey. I also noticed that the big sites book mentions that tow cars are te remain on site overnight due to the risk of flooding. This caused me some concern, to the extent I contacted the C+CC. I am going to a wedding up the road, and whilst I will be leaving the car on site, I might not be in any fit state to drive. If I have to remain in a position to drive, then I would have left the caravan at home and driven back after the wedding reception. I Queried this with the club and they replied that the risk was small and even smaller in August. They were also happy with the fact that I would not be in a position to be towing away on the Saturday night.
We've been to Chertsey and though i really could not find anything wrong like Trooper it just didn't grab me. We much prefered Horsley.
There just seemed a better atmosphere, more relaxed at Horsley.
Maybe that's because hubby and i had a falling out at Chertsey.
We didn't get the pitch we should have because another couple had underestimated the size of their tent and were given our pitch. We could get the tent on the pitch they gave us but not the car, well not comfortably anyway. I wanted to complain and he didn't, hence the falling out.
So that's probably why i wouldn't go back to Chertsey
