We finally bit the bullet and bought a Minnesota 4 at the camping/caravan and outdoor show at the weekend, but now have the dilema of where to test it out!  Anyone have any reccommendations for campsites about an hours drive from north manchester - the site would have to be child friendly?  I'm sure we can get into the Dales within this time frame so there should be plenty of options, but I was just wondering if anyone can suggest somewhere,

Thanks

R

ribble,
Use the camp site search on here and you will find one in; erm Bury.
It may not quite fit the bill, but is near enough to home in case things don't quite go to plan. Failing that; there are plenty of others to chose from.
Best of luck,
Jim.

Hi,

I can recommend the Caravan Club site at Bury. We have just recently bought a new caravan and went there to try ours out for one night, we also live in Manchester and wanted to go somewhere very close by. Everyone thought we were mad going away for the weekend to Bury but it is a lovely site. The site is extremely clean and whilst there is no playpark on site the country park is literally next door. We have 2 children and they loved it. The East lancashire railway runs right by the side and the kids loved it when it passed by tooting its whistle.

Within an hours drive of North Manchester you have the Fylde coast and also Cumbria. Loads of choice there.

Clitheroe sounds good with the added bonus of a swimming pool nearby, I will investigate further, thanks.  We did wonder about Burrs, but think it is just a bit too close for it to be a break for us adults.

Keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks

Ribble

ribble,

check the opening dates for clitheroe,

as said before plenty of sites on fylde coast, preston, garstang or as jojo says burrs is great and you feel like you could be anywhere, even if you do live nearby.

wherever you decide hope all goes well.

The public swimming pool at Clitheroe is currently closed for refurb.  Think it opens sometime in April.  There's a nice site between Clitheroe & Skipton called Gallaber Park http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4559- about 45 mins from us so prob about an hour from Bury.  Not sure how soon you want to try your 'van out but it doesn't open till March.

Hi ribble, there is a very good camp site at holingworth lake at Rochdale thats not to far from you,  and the caravan club have a very good site at castleton  with a few tent pitches,  and i think its open to none members, about 1 hours drive from Bury.

look for them on the camp search,  .ellroy.

What about Chester Fairoaks Caravan Club Site, only 1 hr away, child friendly, Hungry Horse Pub with hungry horse size portions 5 min walk away and VERY child friendly. Lots of other fast food eateries near by, Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet 10 min walk away and the centre of Chester 10 min drive away.
