I go over to the Isle of Wight to deliver items to East Cowes quite ofter, I always go on Red Funnel Ferries from Southampton, a return usually costs me about £30 - £35 if I book online, but bear in mind that I normally travel over on the 8:30pm ferry & return on the the 10pm Ferry, both are usually quiet, I'd guess that at busier times the fares will be more expensive.

I think I once read somewhere that cost per mile, the Isle of Wight ferries are the most expensive in the world, but there again cross channel ferries are up there with the most expensive as well.
We made our choice a few years ago.Having visited the island for many years we have now stopped going for the summer. At around £25-30 for a pitch and the price of the ferry on top its become far too pricey for us.We had thought about going by cycle and camping but its almost as expensive as taking a car! they really do need to sort out the pricing structure to bring people back to the island.

I booked through park resorts, for car, trailer, 2 adults and 3 children, costing £59 return at 11 a.m. in July. The site is also only costing £55. Cant be bad can it.
I imagine the Captain of the Red Funnel ferries is one of the best in the world, it must take some navigating into Cowes with all those yachts moving around. It it hard to imagine trying to navigate a car ferry into Cowes during Cowes week.
