Hi,

I have just bought a large family tent and have three kids and a dog, so space is now a problem. I am toying with the idea of whether to buy a top box or use my small trailer. Last year we went to a campsite in the New Forest and although we didn't use the trailer I can remember being supprised to discover that there was an additional fee for a trailer (even though it would fit on the same pitch).

Could anyone advise me is this the norm and if so what are the average costs??

We have been charged for ours in the past - pre TT - another thing that makes me REALLY cross ... we already pay as much for a little tent as a caravan and then extra for the trailer - not everyone does it luckily.

Sites that charge for trailers are just extracting the urine!

I seriously would think twice about using them. This charging for every single item has to stop somewhere, surely?

Crikey, never seen that anywhere I've been - does that mean I'd have to pay twice for my Combi - once for the tent bit and then for the trailer underneath? There's some barmy site owners about.

We are using a site in the summer and we will be charged £1-00 per night but we knew that before we booked.

We have a trailer, but as yet have not been asked to pay extra for it. However if we were, then we would certainly make a fuss, and let them know about this website, also informing them that we would not be coming back.......

Perhaps, a new post should be started on "greedy" campsites?

Before I get slated for suggesting  this, I know they have to make a living, but come on...... there are charges, and there are mickey takers.

It seems that at the moment its only a minority charging for trailers. But if left unchecked, who knows..Perhaps we will be paying for windbreaks soon...

As camping becomes more popular site owners ( well some) will charge for whatever they can get away with. The only answer is for us to either complain or not stay there.

As long as we stump up and pay then they will charge, what will it take for us to voice our opinions to them insted of silently suffering then moaning on here which achieves nothing ? We do not have to cause a rumpus, just in passing politely say to owner that you feel charge for trailer etc is unjust and you wont be returning and telling your friends the same.

On the continent some sites meter electricity - I actually think  that is a reasonable way to do things... you pay for what you use... AND it usually works out less than we get charged a night anyway!!!  

BUT I agree - camping is getting more and more expensive, I increasingly find myself going back to the same 2/3 campsites that keep things simple - charge per adult, per child .... and that's that!

How can you justify £3 per night for a trailer, and £2.50 for kids ????
