We wish to visit the Norfolk Broads with our motorhome and we are seeking advice from fellow campers on suitable campsites adjacent to, or within walking distance of the waterways.Actual site facilities are not that important to us, as we are pretty self contained.Ideally we would like to find a recommended site with easy access to day boat self drive hire. We have found a couple of sites on the sitefinder but personal advice goes a long way! All suggestions welcomed! Thanks in advance.

If you're a member of the 'Caravan Club' you won't get more central for 'the Broads' than "Broadlands" at Ludham, there's a boatyard (Ludham Bridge boatyard) just a hundred metres away on the River Ant. There's some lovely walks close by too at 'How Hill' and St. Benets Marsh...

Another site, that always gets good reviews on U.K.C.S. is "Clippesby Hall", which is probably an equal distance (2 miles or so) from Acle (River Bure) & Potter Heigham (River Thurne), where there are day hire boatyards...

You can find details (and reviews) on both of these sites via the "Campsite Search" facility at the top of the page... Enjoy your holiday, it's a lovely area...

P.S. Don't forget to visit the lovely beaches at Waxham, Sea Palling or Horsey...

P.P.S. You might get a few more replies if you put this thread on the "UK Caravan & Campsites" section...

You don't say whether you want the North broads or South broads, or if it doesn't matter, but two possibilites are Waveney River Centre at Beccles, (south broads)  which has on-site day-boat hire, and Causeway Cottage at Potter Heigham, (north broads), a basic but clean site, and with day-boat hire right on the doorstep in the village. Potter Heigham is one of the main places for boat hire, and there's a big store there (Lathams) which sells absolutely everything under the sun and is well worth a look. For any keen anglers they have a great fishing tackle shop. We are staying at California for Easter (we go every year) and a ride to Potter Heigham is one of our yearly 'must do's. In fact just thinking about it makes me want to go - can't wait now!

There is a lovely CL called Gale Riverside, photos on my website, at Loddon/Chedgrave on the river Chet. ONly problem is that it is so popular it gets booked up a year in advance. However it is worth giving them a ring just in case they get a cancellation.

Another recomendation for Broadlands CC site- we went 2 years back & hired a boat from Ludham Bridge twice-was a good way of passing a nice day chugging up & down. This year as we are not as tied to site facilities tho' we are going to a CL nr Hickling where there is also a boatyard doing dayboats for hire.

See you all soon, Bernard

The Norfolk Broads is obviously the well known name for them but not all of them are in Norfolk! They are divided into three areas - North Eastern waters, North Western waters, and Southern waters, the Southern ones actually being in Suffolk, although they are never called the Suffolk Broads! I've spent a lot of time in that neck of the woods, and my OH actually comes from down there - his dad lives in Mutford near Beccles.
