Hi Jim
It depends where abouts in "The Lakes" you want to go.
For a campsite in a beautiful location the National Trust campsite by the Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in the Langdale Valley takes some beating. I don't know what its facilities are like because they don't take caravans but it is definitely popular especially during weekends etc.

Limefitt Park is a good site, but can be a little expensive, depends what time of year, avoid school hols and bank holidays if poss, both for prices and traffic.

parkfoot in Ullswater is a great site, bit expensive but worth it, the onsite shop has just about everything you could want and very reasonable prices!

Hi we have just come back from Low Lorton the wheatsheaf pub and we had a great time although snow was def on the menu!
This is quite high in the lakes, near cockermouth and keswick, but it was a nice site, although one thing the toilet block was a bit of a walk from the camping area.

We stayed at the Cove caravan and camping park, at Watermillock, on the hillside overlooking Ullswater. It is a quiet, slightly sloping site, and is in hte middle of great walking country. The showers etc are well kept, and there is a freezer for re-freezing your freezer blocks. There is no bar, or shop, but if you want quiet with great views at a reasonable price it is perfect. We looked at the QUiet site too which is opposite, but that was much more expensive (has a bar though - it depends on what you want from a site).
