Why does the summer high season keep getting longer every year,it's now 51 nights,it used to be a six week period.I have been a member for 13 years but I think the club is getting far too greedy and looking to exploit campers at every opportunity. They don't pay staff any more in summer,do they?I know childrens holidays vary from region to region. Why couldn't the high season start on the 18th July instead of th 11th?

Schools in Scotland break up for summer at the end of June, so 11th July is not that bad. Quite a lot of we Scots do come down to England. And the continental schools are finished mid June, so that makes the "summer season" even longer.
I think you will find that buinesses look at it the other side. The high season is the standard price, discounts are offered for low season when staff aren't paid any less. Although high season is busier usually more staff are employed that need to be paid.
Easter was low season now it is high season I was in Tewesbury on friday and the caravan club site was about 1/2 full and these clubs are run for ther members big joke !!!!

We used to work for the C&CC club and no they don't pay any more i high season although they do employ extra staff so I suppose that compensates. My grouse is that although over 55's get a cheaper rate, on most sites, they have to pay the same as everybody in high season. This is O.K. on most sites but if you go to some sites they are almost empty during the week as the over 55,s don't go.
I agree with you to an extent magaret, but why can't over 55's get a reduction high season on all sites, there is a family deal available mid season as well as high season for people with kids,so why can't over 55's have a high season discount,we like to camp in nice weather as well. They give high season discounts to some sites(the ones that aren't so popular.

Isn't that age discrimination though?

Over 55's can go away at any time but those with school age children are restricted to school holicays (high or mid season) only unless they take their children out of school (which we won't do). You can have really nice weather in June or September when the children are at school and the prices are cheaper.
We qualify for concessions and tend not to go away in the high season. I don't think that concessions should be given in the high season because as Fat Bum says, we can go at other times, whereas those with families are usually tied to high season.
Having said that, for the last five years of my working life as a teacher (age 55-60), I was also tied to holidaying during the high season but as I was working and earning, it didn't matter so much that I paid full price. However, now I've retired, it would matter!!!

If you have to take your holidays in term time, which I fully understand, why do the club give special family deals outside these dates,if it works one way why not the other.

Maybe these deals are aimed at families with pre-school children. During the week in mid and low season, that's about the only children we see on site. However, at weekends we do see more school age children.
I think the peak season is extended because the school holidays are more spread out now, so they set the peak season to cover them all. Basically the money they take in peak season has to cover for the beginning and end of season when the sites are half empty (at least during the week).
And their staffing bill will be higher because they are employing more staff, not because they pay more at that time of year.
The only problem is that some of us over 55s cant go away at any time because we work in schools.
Speaking of schools, I wonder how long it will be before the holiday companies twig that Easter holidays are different in lots of different counties (they seem to cover the period 21st March to 13th April this year) and adjust their prices accordingly

Me too, but as I said earlier in the thread, I was earning money and didn't have children so it wasn't too much of a problem. Now that I've retired and my income has dropped, I appreciate the concessionary rates.
