Mines not over yet.

We came to West Ayton CC site on Saturday. When I arrived on pitch (in the rain) I discovered I had left the front locker cover open (whoops) but luckily the hydraulic thingy had kept it down.

We set up in the rain, with no major mishaps, deciding to put up the awning the next day.

Yesterday, lovely sunny fresh day, I got the awning out ready, laid out the poles and pulled the awning through the channel and arggggh, no pads (the things that hold the poles to the caravan). I have 2 peg bags, and as West Ayton is rock pegs, and we've been before I only brought that bag with me.

Simple, go to the local caravan accessory shop, who had 3 second hand at £4 a piece and "should fit" pads.

I returned and fitted the new pads, (my neighbours must have been really entertained) as one jumped off the beading and dented our pride and joy!!!!!

I pulled the awning from the rail, stuffed it into the back of the car, and drove home (100 mile round trip) to recover the bag I'd left in the garage.

Back at the pitch (3 O'clock now) I shifted the wife from her Lafuma to give me a hand, and pulled the awning through the rail again, only to find I'd pulled it through upside down!!!

I've never been so convinced that these things have a mind of their own. The wife made me a cuppa, I had a sit down, and after a few minutes tried again.

This time I switched into "experienced" caravanner mode, and managed to get the awning up in about 40 minutes.

I think I'd have settled for snow.....

Cheers

Paul

Our "site" in Snowdonia turned out to be a muddy track next to a pub! We used rainwater from a butt for washing etc and had to empty the waste in the loo! OH wanted to go somwhere else, not possible at Easter w/e, but it actually turned out ok. Would hesitate to recommend it though!

We arrived at Sandingham CC Site at 12 noon on the Thursday, hooked up and went for a walk with the dogs in the woods, stayed dry.

Friday had a walk into Dersingham got back to the van late afternnon just as the rain/sleet started.

Saturday drove to Hunstanton, wow windy or what, walked along the front from the funfair to the lighthouse had to shelter twice with hail and snow, then went back to the town centre to the shops, the weather was so changeable that it was quite a laugh, snow the brilliant sunshine.

Sunday, woke up to 2" of snow, snowman building, walked through the woods and back via the C&CC site with the dogs.

Monday back home, all in all a good trip and very enjoyable, brititsh weather is what it is, just make the best of it.

Can't really blame you in a TT, mind you there was one on Sandringham CC site and quite a few on the C & CC site there was even 4-5 brave soles in dome tents.

Well, we're actually seriously thinking about getting a caravan - the opportunity has come up, and it's at the right price, so we're going to have a trial run in it in a couple of weeks time before we commit ourselves. We'll still keep and use the tt though, we could never part with it as it has given us so much pleasure over the last five years.

FANTASTIC Easter down here in the West Country!!!

Nipped down to Carnon Downs CC site, near Truro for 3 nights.

Sat OUTSIDE 'local' pub drinking cider on Good Friday.

Walked about 10/12 miles to Truro, around, and back on Saturday - found another good pub!!!!

It rained Sunday morning but by 11:30am it was dry so did a really MUDDY walk along the creek.

As I said before FANTASTIC!!!!

Good Friday....not so good. Set off for Huntingdon Boathaven, had a bit of a crash on the way down, arrived on site and fell out with hubby as he lost patience trying to put the awning up in the very strong wind. Saturday not too bad. Sunday woke up to 5 or 6 inches of snow, looked lovely until it started to thaw and all the water made a beeline for our awning which resulted in the groundsheet being under 2 inches of water. Had thought about staying until Tuesday, but decided to call it a day on Monday. Sent a text message to our friends who were caravanning in Skipsea.... they were on the beach building sandcastles.  Oh well, it was eventful if nothing else.
