I have been looking at the listings for sites in Gt.Yarmouth as we need to go for the bank holiday at the end of May to visit family.

They all seem very expensive and most seem to charge for dogs and i mean £3 a night for a dog which i find disgraceful, anyhow that is another debate. I know it is a bank holiday i just really object to paying £20 a night when we do not need EHU and do not require anything other than the basics.

My question is does anyone know of any sites in the area (don't mind being up to 5-8 miles outside of Gt. Yarmouth) that do not charge more than £17 a night for a monty 6 with 2 people and 2 dogs. (have googled and done a ukcampsite search but wondered if anyone had any secret places )

I hope someone can help

I may have a suggestion but not sure on the size of your tent. The name means nothing to me - is it small, medium or large?

Try Swallow Park, Lawns Lane, Belton, about 3 miles SW of Yarmouth. We stayed there for a few nights last August and it was an okay site. They allow dogs and it only cost us £8 per night.

Sorry I can't say what the facilities are like as we used our own.

It's in the CC Site book as a CL, but they have two fields and one of them takes tents.

The phone no. is 01493 780201

The site I was thinking of is Drewery Caravan Park at California, about 5 miles north of Yarmouth. Nice site in a lovely area, with direct access to the beach - great for dogs - and a shop, pub and takeaway just by the entrance. We've been going there for years and we love it - should have gone for Easter but the weather was so bad down there we postponed and are now going the 2nd bank holiday in May.

I have an up-to-date price list here, that's why I asked for the size of your tent - for a large tent, 2 adults and 2 dogs it works out at £20 per night without ehu. A small tent with same works out at £16 per night, so would have been in your price range.

I know what you mean about the prices but many sites do charge for dogs, even this one, and I think all sites in general have put their prices up - some quite drastically - to compensate for last year's bad weather. Unfortunately we either have to pay the increase or stop camping!

If you are interested in this site, the phone no. is 01493 730845 and the owner's name is Reg Tuddenham. Let me know if you do go, we can say hello to each other!

I hope you like it then - I'll feel awful if you don't! At the moment we don't know whether we'll be there with the tt or a caravan - we're actually booked in with the tt, but we are now considering getting a caravan off OH's brother and will probably have it by then, so we'll be on the side where the tourers are and not on the main camping field. However, you'll recognize us by our camping van, it's got a big eagle on the front and black patterns along the sides - pics in profile - so come and say hello. Here's a couple of pics to keep you going till May -
