Hello

I have been looking at the Forest Camping campsites and really fancy these but I was wondering if anyone has stayed at any of them? What I am looking for is a campsite that is actually in the woods where you camp in the trees, well not in the tree exactly but among them!! Like you see on American telly programs when they go on camping trips :)

I hope that doesnt sound stupid, but I just think this would be really fun :) Has anybody got any ideas. I am willing to travel anywhere in England (because OH will be driving)

Thanks

Hollands Wood in the New Forest is like you describe (or was when I was last there 9 years agao, I can't imagine it's changed much). The C&CC site at Graffham in West Sussex also has pitches set in woodland and is a lovely site - very clean showers etc, surrounded by nice countryside and 2 decent dog-friendly pubs in the village.

I love woodland sites - they seem more "wild" somehow, even when you know they're not.

Hollands Wood is a great campsite as are most of the forest holiday sites. They are basic but you get a real sense of nature with them... Deers, ponys & Rabbits at your door!!!! We love it!

Blackberry Wood is a wonderful site with pitches in the secluded clearings.  It's only small though and very popular so you have to book quite far in advance.

Hi Topsie! We like the Hollybush Inn at Hay-on-Wye. You can camp on grass or in the woods, and they don't mind if you make a real campfire! There's lots of wood around to do it, too! Last time we went, a quite-tame fox came round to see us at midnight, rummaging for scraps of food! It's on the banks of the River Wye. You can hire a canadian canoe from them, go downstream for as far as you choose, then ring up the Hollybush and they come and pick you up with a minibus and trailer! The food's great at the Inn, too! Look in Campsite Search for details!    Johnny (in Farnworth!)

I'll second the Hollybush Inn. Link here: http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=4562

If you look in my gallery, you can see a photo of us camped in the woods next to the river.

We love Ebury Hill. It is a C&CC site but you don't have to be a member. You need your own facilities though. No toilets or showers but EHUs and a dishwashing room with loads of hot water.

Would say any of the Forest Holidays New Forest sites would suit you. Obviously the ones without the toilets and showers are more foresty, but Hollands Wood or Ashurst depending if you have a dog or not are the most suitable with showers.

Bracelands and Christchurch in the Forest of Dean are lovely. If you don't need EHU you can pitch almost anywhere and there are some lovely pitches amongst the trees.
