Looking for a caravan site in the dales, the wife wants to try her new walking boots out. We have dogs so the site must allow pets.Looked on the campsite search but don't really know what we are looking for.
Many Thanks

Agree with the above, we have stayed at the CC site at Hawes quite a few times. When we had a caravan, we once stayed there for 8 nights, and the car never moved from the pitch from the day we arrived to the day we left. Hubby reckons we have walked over every hill visible and then some.
One great walk from there is along the Pennine Way, and to Shunner Fell. We have done that one 3 times, and every time by the time we got there, the weather has deteriorated to the extent that we have never yet had a view from it!
One really long walk we have done a few times is to go via Buttertubs into the village of Thwaite, from where you can pick up the Pennine Way back, over Shunner Fell. An 'ell of a long walk, but well worth it!
So Gary and Sue, plenty of miles there to try out the new boots there, they'll be well walked in by the time you leave, there are so many different directions to walk in. We also stayed there over last Xmas, it was great!

We've stayed at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3652 at Malham altho I'm not sure if they have EHU if your're in a caravan. Malham is a really good place to stay - excellent walks & pubs.

I've been looking in this area too, but there are so many campsites it really depends what you want and what you want to pay. Some are quite expensive, even though they're basic.
I've been looking for somewhere that is close to a dog friendly pub, has a dog walk and good washroom facilities. Found a few but they are nearer the moors and a bit expensive, so I'm still looking.

Oh, and make sure new boots are broken in before going on a long walk or you'll have blisters on your blisters
A good pair of socks are worth paying for too

One of our favourites besides Strid Wood is Howgill Lodge near Appletreewick about 3 miles from the Strid wood CC site. Its near Barden Bridge and a short walk to the River where you can meet the dales way and walk for miles and mile. We are going again on 6th June and I can't wait!!

We have booked Craken House Farm spoke to owner who sounds very nice. Dogs welcome tells me there is a field to exercise dogs in off the lead only a small site £14 night high season - about 2 miles from Leyburn - stunning views she says.

There is a beautiful little site in county durham called Daleview Caravan park. Lovely owners, nice people, free showers (with a deposit on the key but you get that back). Also has a clubhouse with licensed bar, and a nice set of meals at good prices. There is also a dog walk. The pennine way sits a 2 minute walk down the hill, and the surrounding area is pretty nice too.
The village nearby has everything you need, and every shop is friendly enough as all of the locals run them, and they love tourists. The clubhouse is a converted railway station, so it has a rustic nostaligic feel, but it isn't run down at all. Its a definite looker. The have their own website which you can definitely google, but i don't know it offhand. I think they are on UK Campsite as well.
Not sure of prices though, but I am pretty sure it isn't much. They don't have an electric hookup which might be a problem, but it is worth the stay. Also the site is next to a road, which some people may not like, but you do get used to it. Hope this is helpful.

We used to use the site at the back of the cemetary in Hawes - Bainbridge Ings - lovely position for walking.

I looked at Bainbridge Ings but when I emailed them, they said there was nowhere to let the dog off the lead for exercise as it was surrounded by farmland with animals.
