Hi Karen
My site, Wood Office Caravan Park in Cold Blow has just put in new pitches for statics. You get your own van from a specified dealer apparently. Plus there's at least one van for sale on the site. Might be out of your price range, but worth ringing them to enquire? I think the ground rent for a static is about £2k, and they're on electric meters, which apparently is a lot considering the only extras are a small climbing/swing thing for the kids, washing/dryer facilities and a shop in reception. I love it though, Its extremely safe, lots of flat, beautifully kept grass for little ones to run around. Clubhouse equals "mam, can I have money?" and pool means supervision. We like the fact that the kids have the freedom to come and go as they please, which they don't have at home (they're 7 and 9).
Why don't you consider siting a tourer? That's what we do. Its like camping but cushier. Statics are too much like home. Its £1100 for the season at the moment (you'd get discount this late, I'd have thought), plus we pay £2 per night electric. And they opened a brand new shower block at the beginning of the season. You also don't get the age limit thing with a tourer, and you can shift it if you're not happy with the site.
Our site has many rules (including not being able to keep awnings up, which a lot of people hate), but as long as you abide by them you're fine. My kids would create hell if we moved somewhere else. Most of the kids are also under 10.
Actually thinking about it, there's a van on the site for sale now, £4k. Its about 26ft, was a 6 berth, but got converted to a 4 berth by a couple that wanted extra storage space. Its a 1991 Eldiss. Lovely van, nearly bought it myself a couple of years ago when it was changing hands, but bought a new one instead. An old couple had it last year, they sold it to get a static on our site and sold it to someone who lost her job straight after, unfortunately, so its back on the market.
Sorry for rabbiting on, best of luck with your searching. I'd agree that grass is really important with a little one.
