Hi - we are off on our first camping trip at the weekend.  Can anyone tell me what the difference between a serviced and a standard pitch is?   I'm assuming that serviced is with EHU and standard is just a grass pitch.  Can anyone advise me please as I want to book online and obviously don't want to spend any more money than is necessary?

Thanks

Ali

A serviced pitch usealy has hard standing, EHU,water supply, And direct draining from your unit, standard may be grass or hard standing depending on the site you go to,some have EHU some may not have EHU,none seviced are usealy grass pitch with nothing at all.

Now Pete - this is where you realise that I am blonde!! Does that mean that as we are tenters there is a possibility of hard standing !!  EEEKKK!! I had assumed that we would be on grass - we don't need EHU.

Different campsites have different descriptions, so it's best to check with them.

Some sites call their pitches 'serviced' if they have electric hook up.  Others mean the whole lot i.e. water, waste & tv connection.

Sometimes it's made clear in the price list.

usealy hard standing is for motorhomes and caravans only,as I cant see anyone being able to drive tent pegs in it,if you dont use a EHU just ask for none service grass pitch, but I would check with the site for a level one as you are camping, you might also ask how far you are from any showers and toilets, wheather you prefer to be near them or away from them, also if the site has a club house, some club sites dont close till 12.00 midnight in high season,if you like to retire earlyer than that, there may also be a road next to the site so check for that,in a tent you will hear a lot more that some one in a caravan or motorhome,I hope I am not putting you off though with this, but as you get used to it I am sure you will love it,

Thanks Pete - Duh - Hadn't thought about the pegs!  I've been posting on another thread as my son is severely autistic and had lots of help from lots of campers - I've been to the site that we want to go to and the peeps there were great.  Just tried to book on line and you can only do that if member of C&CC.  I don't want to join yet just in case he hates it!!  I'll have to wait until the morning and ring.

Thanks for the advice

Ali

On a C & C C site, service pitches have EHU. There's usually a choice of grass or hardstanding, with or without EHU, but it can depend on the size of your unit. Best to ring the site and explain what you need, and they will sort it out.
