I liked the look of Golden Valley as well and hope to visit. We are off to http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6111 (Shallow Grange Farm) in Buxton. It was only 37.00 for 3 nights for 2 adults and 1 teenager, toddler is free. We are booked on an electric pitch and you only pay for the electric if you use it and only for what you use. This is a working farm and you really get to enjoy it. You're very close to the Peak District with lots of walking activities as well.
This is an eco friendly site and encourages recylcing as well. There are no extra charges for school or bank holidays and no charges for awnings or dogs.
We camp on a budget as well and do lots of walking, siteseeing, and board games. We usually have one day out visiting a nearby town.
Also, in Newhaven, you will find http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1796 This is a great campsite, everyone there is so welcoming and the site is well kept. I think it was only about 12 a night, not sure about bank holidays. The best place to pitch is the lower section, it's nice and flat.
I hope they find a place nearby and have a wonderful time
