Hello all,

Looking for a campsite for this weekend. Requirements are as follows:

1) Within 3 hours of Manchester.
2) Basic, quiet camping (only necessity is toilets).
3) Large campsite (would like somewhere with no allocated pitches and where we can have our own space).
4) No pre booking - first come, first served basis (mainly because we've left it too late to book).
5) Good walking routes nearby.

Ideally not looking at the Lake District since we've been here many times and would like to try somewhere different. I have tried the camp site search facility but haven't stumbled across anything quite right yet.

All responses are greatly appreciated.

What about "wild camping"
You'd have great walking and plenty of space.
Very popular in my area!

Would definitely consider "Wild Camping" however my only concern is that we would like to camp for longer that one night and feel that this might cause problems?

You get the options on there to click on an area on the UK map aswell as other ways of searching for suitable sites, so it might be useful? It usually is

Mind you, I have nooooo idea why I'm trying to help anybody get away this weekend.......windowsill bay for me until bl**dy August

Bet you have a reallllly lovely time....wherever you end up....jammy beggar

Well in about three hours we are off to Glan Morfa Mawr campsite which only has bins, taps and toilets. It's on the road to Blackrock beach on the right a couple of miles outside of Porthmadog and it's £8 per unit - no elec, no need to book I just hope it's not full by the time we get there.  Plenty of walks etc.  No allocated pitches and it's a fair size - there's trout fishing there too but you wouldn't know if you see what I mean - go in even if the gate's shut - well that's what I am going to do - the guy on the phone told me last year just to undo it if it was ever shut!!

Thanks everyone for your quick replies

Naomi - Shell Island looks promising and I hope you enjoy Barbados next weekend, lucky you

Hippy Chick - will try the search again, you never know I might have missed something. Hopefully we'll have a good weekend especially if the weathers nice, fingers crossed.

Debsy - lol over the gate, Glan Morfa Mawr campsite sounds good, just been looking at pictures of Blackrock Beach and it seems very nice. Hope you enjoy your weekend.
