I think people are hesitating because...what kind of family group are you?
First type: A family group where the kids go out and play without annoying other campers, parents keep an eye on what they're up to, get them all packed off to bed by 10-ish. Parents themselves have a few drinks and a chat after this but by curfew time (11pm usually) they've turned in themselves so as to not disturb other campers. And they keep the kids inside and subdued to around 8am, so as not to dirturb other folk either.
Second type: Kids run wild till all hours, rampaging round loo blocks, screaming, swearing, kicking footballs into tents, running through other folks pitches and disturbing dogs and sleeping babies etc. Parents meanwhile are drunk as skunks at 10am, having not stopped drinking, singing, swearing and fighting till 4am. Oh, and the kids will have been up at 6am playing football against your tent.
Lol...don't take me wrong, I'm not accusing you of being the second sort of family! But all of us longterm campers have encountered all of the above behaviour at some time or other, often all at the same time. So the minute we hear the words "tinnies" and "kick back" our hearts sink. Quiet campsites will accomodate and welcome the first sort of family. Most site owners and every other camper on the site will be plotting how to set fire to the tent of the second sort.
However there are sites to accomodate all sorts of families, including ones with no rules that allow all night parties and your kids to do exactly what they like. Best idea is to use the campsite search button above. There is a huge range of options and I'm sure you'll find somewhere that suits you perfectly. But look at the curfew times carefully (you'll be expected to observe them)...you might be happier with midnight to 7am, for example, as this still gives parents the option to sit up a bit later but still be sure of a few peaceful hour sleeping time.
I've got two kids (11 and 6) and a Hubby who likes his beer, btw. We are not a quiet family! But we know how far noise travels at night (you can hear the person in the next tent turn over, just about) and that communal living brings it's own set of problems. Most campsite rules are designed to smooth out these problems. So while they might look a bit irksome to a fun loving family who have never camped before, they are there for a good reason.
Plus a strict warden will throw you off site, day or night, if he thinks you're being annoying. I've seen it done!
