we are just buying our first tent to go out & about, it seems that most sites we look at claim to be quiet. this is great if you don't have a family  however we have various ages to consider from babes to adults. can anyone reccomend a few sites where you can just kick back wiv a tinny & relax wiv like minded souls or will we be boo'd off the tenting fraternity forever!!!

Suprised no-one's helping you - there's loads of sites that would be suitable, unfortunately we tend to avoid them so I can't help but I've bumped up your post so maybe someone else will!

Where exactly do you want to go?  I know there's a few around Newquay that you'd like & also friends have talked about one at Pooley Bridge nr Ullswater that would also be ok although I don't know the name.

I think people are hesitating because...what kind of family group are you?

First type: A family group where the kids go out and play without annoying other campers, parents keep an eye on what they're up to, get them all packed off to bed by 10-ish. Parents themselves have a few drinks and a chat after this but by curfew time (11pm usually) they've turned in themselves so as to not disturb other campers. And they keep the kids inside and subdued to around 8am, so as not to dirturb other folk either.

Second type: Kids run wild till all hours, rampaging round loo blocks, screaming, swearing, kicking footballs into tents, running through other folks pitches and disturbing dogs and sleeping babies etc. Parents meanwhile are drunk as skunks at 10am, having not stopped drinking, singing, swearing and fighting till 4am. Oh, and the kids will have been up at 6am playing football against your tent.

Lol...don't take me wrong, I'm not accusing you of being the second sort of family! But all of us longterm campers have encountered all of the above behaviour at some time or other, often all at the same time. So the minute we hear the words "tinnies" and "kick back" our hearts sink. Quiet campsites will accomodate and welcome the first sort of family. Most site owners and every other camper on the site will be plotting how to set fire to the tent of the second sort.

However there are sites to accomodate all sorts of families, including ones with no rules that allow all night parties and your kids to do exactly what they like. Best idea is to use the campsite search button above. There is a huge range of options and I'm sure you'll find somewhere that suits you perfectly. But look at the curfew times carefully (you'll be expected to observe them)...you might be happier with midnight to 7am, for example, as this still gives parents the option to sit up a bit later but still be sure of a few peaceful hour sleeping time.

I've got two kids (11 and 6) and a Hubby who likes his beer, btw. We are not a quiet family! But we know how far noise travels at night (you can hear the person in the next tent turn over, just about) and that communal living brings it's own set of problems. Most campsite rules are designed to smooth out these problems. So while they might look a bit irksome to a fun loving family who have never camped before, they are there for a good reason.

Plus a strict warden will throw you off site, day or night, if he thinks you're being annoying. I've seen it done!

Welcome tamnphil, just found your post.I think the kind of site you are looking for is a nice family site where you can enjoy yourself knowing the site has the facilities for the children to have fun during the day and then somewhere you can chill outside your tent, maybe have a bar.b.que and have a nice relaxing beer in the evening. There are some lovely sites where you can do this.My OH and i like the quiet relaxing places when there are just the two of us but we go to an entirely different site when the grandchildren     are with us.Places like Unity farm/Warren farm/Broadway House in the cheddar gorge is a good site for both you and your family.Beverley Park in Devon is also very good.Keep searching and reading the reviews on here.Hope you find somewhere nice .Happy camping

Hi, I have 2 daughters 3 and 5 and we prefer sites that have plently of things to do, what we look for is a site that has a bar/entertainment area where myself and my husband can enjoy a drink and the little ones can boogie away and also join in the fun and games and are completely safe.

We have been to Ty Mawr in North Wales several times as this fits for us.  It has a great entertainment programme for the under 5's and also up to age 16.  It has a swimming pool on site - we have never been to it but it seems popular.  I has an adventure playground and sports courts, shop on site, a chippy and a pub.  The shower block in the Meadows area is a porta cabin and the one in the warren is a building.  Both are not the most modern of buildings but the water is always hot and they are cleaned regularly.

We have encountered roudy people and children but the security wardens are very good and sort out the noise makers.

It is in Towyn which is quite small but 10 mins one way you have Rhyl and the other way is Abergele, Llandudno, Colwyn Bay and Conwy all of which has plenty of things to do for all ages.

Good Luck in your search
