Hello,

We are planning to go camping in Northumberland in mid July.  My wife wants to stay at Dunstan Hill near Alnwick because she thinks there is less likely to be a problem with midges in that area.  My wife gets eaten alive by anything that bites and she is very keen to avoid midges if at all possible!

However, I'm very keen to try the Bellingham, Brown Rigg site near Bellingham but my wife is less keen as she thinks there will be a strong chance of midges there in July.

Has anyone been to either of these sites in July and can comment on how much of a problem midges might be at that time of year at either site?

If midges are a problem at both, does anyone want to suggest any alternatives?

You'd be very unlucky to get midges at Brown Rigg or Dunstan Hill.  There are however, millions of the blighters nearby to Brown Rigg in Kielder, so if you visit make sure you use a spray.

Trek 50, you won’t have a midge anywhere near you. If you don’t want Midge, Mosquitoes, Ticks or Horseflies, then you just HAVE to use a repellent, it is, literally, as simple as that.

Get some candles going, use a coil under the table and get some stuff on. Avon Skin So Soft is good stuff, but you really need something with DEET. 👍
