Hi,

just been let down by Sandy Balls and now looking for a campsite for mid June in the new forest area.  Someone suggested lytton lawn but reviews say gentle slope but just how bad is the slope any other suggestions?

Do you have a tent or caravan??

We went to Lytton Lawn a coupke of years ago - quite pleaseant and peaceful. From what I remember the slop was not much of one at all!

If you have a caravan or motorhome etc. I can highly recommend Bashley Park (Hoburne)

Been to Lytton lawn quite a few times never noticed a slope nice site and you got the bonus of using all the night life of their sister site about a mile up the road. We're going to cc centenary site in June have you considered that?

There is a slope there but IRC, all the pitches are level.

A really nice site - was there in April.

Compared with Sandy Balls, not much to do on site for kids - just a small playground but you are able to use all the facilities at Shorefield, about 5 minutes away by car.

Have you tried Bashley Park at New Milton? More in keeping with Sandy Balls..........

I'm interested to know how Sandy Balls came to let you down. We have gone there for years and never experienced such a thing.

We did not have to level on the pitch we used at Lytton Lawn. It is a nice site.  Bashley is also good, I would use either site at anytime.

Well you're paying for all the facilities and activities that are there which aren't at Lytton Lawn eg face painting, clay modelling, orienteering, indoor and outdoor pool, bar, big supermarket and so on. None of these are at Lytton Lawn hence the price difference.

One thing big in Lytton Lawn's favour over Sandy Balls is its close proximity to the beaches. Literally 5 minutes from Milford on Sea, about the same again to Highcliffe and Avon beach with its fab beach cafe is a must. Also the kids will love being able to go crabbing both at Keyhaven (at the footbridge across to the sand spit leading out to Hurst Castle) and Mudeford Quay.

It really is a great area with all that I have described in one direction and the added bonus of the New Forest right on your doorstep.

I don't think you could fail to enjoy it.

I'm very surprised at the way you were treated by the staff at Sandy Balls. We've always found them extremely friendly and helpful.

Sometimes in these situations, it's better to talk to the organ grinder rather than the monkey....

Lytton Lawn does not have the facilities but you can use the pool, sports facilities and club house at Shorefields up the road.  But don't forget to go for some walks in the New Forest and look for the wildlife.

hi - I grew up in that part of the world. Would recommend cycling down to Keyhaven and catching a little boat over to Hurst Castle.   You could cycle into Milford-on-Sea which is a nice little village about 5 mins from that site, all the pubs are geared up for holiday makers. Theres even a creperie there now apparantly. Not sure if you've got children but you could get some fish scraps from the local fishmonger and then go crabbing. Theres a little holiday cafe called the Needles cafe and is great for icecreams (fried breakies) and sells all the stuff you would need for crabbing. Also Lymington is lovely as well, more goes on there and on saturday there is a great market down the high street.

I am sure you will have a lovely time.

One other thing that we thought was really good value and that is the Wightlink ferry across to Yarmouth from Lymington. Yarmouth is nice little place with a great seafood restaurant called "Salty's" just around the corner from where you get off the ferry. Let me warn you that cheap it ain't but the fish was superb. My one tip here is that if you decide to eat here, use the downstairs bar. The restaurant upstairs is "a la carte" and costs at least half as much again.

When we went over in April we got a BOGOF offer that day for foot passengers. Worked out at just over a fiver each return. It's a really nice ride down the Lymington River passing the marina with all the lovely boats moored up, then out across the Solent.

It's a really nice way to while away a few hours.

There's also a company called Puffin Cruises who do trips from the Town Quay in Lymington. They go out to the Needles and take in various points of interest en route. The one big problem with this is that it is quite expensive and if he doesn't have enough people booked, he doesn't sail!!!!! I think you'll find there's a leaflet in LL's reception about them, so you can phone ahead to find out what's occurring.

Cheers!

Vic
