Does anybody go to sites in their local area just to get out from the normal four walls?
There are three sites within 30 mins from our house. Which we are considering using for Friday evenings (straight from work) and Saturday evenings. Problem is only 30 mins away and we go shopping there anyway on Saturdays.
Is it worth it?

we have often camped locally, here and whilst in England. with three young children short journey times were great. We used to camp an hour north of hubbys office in manchester, near pendle hill/forest of bowland, cant for the life of me remember its name, had many happy weekends there.
We now camp locally frequently, but we are lucky to live near the best beaches in Britain. (notice I didnt mention temperature - the north sea, brrrr)
In our experience children just love to camp, wherever they are, and with fuel prices the way they are I think this will become more frequnet.
I have also run many very successful Cub/Scout camps within half an hour of home.

Its better to regret things you've done than things you have never tried
Yes we do..we've got a site 25mins up the road which we are going to next weekend just for the different four walls. Once you're there, the tents pitched & you're sitting down with either a beer or a cup of tea you can forget where you are & imagine you are anywhere.
Yes we do, our camping trip two weeks ago was only a 40-45 minute journey away and have revisited several times. It's great knowing that once the car is packed, you can be enjoying the camping experience in a very short time and once there, you could quite honestly be anywhere. Enjoy!

We have camping sites all around us as we live right by the sea in Norfolk. We have not stayed overnight on any really close ones yet 45 mins away is the closest, only used the ones a few mins drive away to try out new tents as our garden is too small lol
there is a campsite about 30 mins from us, that my husband has mentioned going to but i always think its to close to home, the upside of this site would be that one of us could pop home and feed the cats
however we regularly go to a site that is about 50 mins drive and thats much better, its not to far, but far enough to be somewhere different just for a couple of days

Last year went to site 15 minutes drive away!! Had a great time. kids love camping wherever they are. Once the tent's up and the view's different, you could be at the other end of the country. A bottle of red wine helps as well of course.

i think sometimes the local ones are the best! I know my fave campsite is only around 30-45 mins away, but it is so different to the area i live that I could be 100's of miles away.

Hi Bon, I live in Swansea, and I only ever ususally camp in Gower,30-40 mins and also Riverside in Morriston, which is only about 20 minutes away.
The convenience factor is the big one for me. I don't drive, hubby is self employed, and can't afford the time off, and not keen on tent camping either. So he drops me off, stays a night here and there, and me and the kids love it.
We have done it in Thursaston about 30 mins from were we live its great. You can just switch off because if you stayed at home something always needs doing doesnt it.

Yes - you can be a million miles away from home once your tent is pitched. The fact that you could nip home to feed the cat, in less time than it takes you to get home from work is irrelevant. I am just trying to find a free weekend so that we can go to a site about 30 minutes up the road. I might just take Alice when Pip is at Cub camp in a couple of weeks time.
Our favourite area to visit is about 45 minutes drive away (towing) , 30 minutes solo and we love it, it's far enough away to be totally different but also close enough to go home if we need to. We love it that much we've put our name down for a seasonal

May 14 Ranc Davaine
August 14 Les Sablons
August 13 - Camping Playa Brava, Pals
We are picking up our first caravan tomorrow and we want to go somewhere close to home to try it out for our first trip. I thought it may have been silly just going 40 mins up the road but after reading this I can't wait.
I am so excited .. feel like a little girl waiting for christmas morning lol.
