I use stronghold too.  If you read the pamphlet that comes with frontline it states that you have to apply it to a dry dog, and keep the dog out of water for two days.  If you have a dog that loves water, each soaking will dilute the Frontline.  Stronghold  has to be applied to a dry dog, but the dog can get wet within hours, and remains treated no matter how wet they get!  It does only last a month, and is prescription only.  My mud monster golden retriever has just returned from Scotland, he  was covered in ticks, but once they bite they will die.  The most likely time for infection to be passed on is when the tick is full, and there is a two way fluid direction..doesn't usually happen if treated. After a walk we would sit and survey our dog, and look for little money spider type bugs walking over him.  Before they bite, they are that small.  We caught 12 one night!  When caught make sure you kill them, they are hardy little devils and can survive our sewerage systems to attack again!!

Sorry my post was so long.

If you are out walking, try to avoid areas of bracken. That's a preferred place for them to hide in wait.

Ticks also seem to be very localised, we spend quite a few weeks on a sheep farm in Northumberland, which is one of the hot spots.

We never get ticks there, despite not using any Frontline etc. The shepherd dogs don't get any either.

I got one when going for a stroll along the path near Craster though. 'orrible!! I'm now armed with my tick twister, I'm never without it now.

At least the critters tend to latch on where the hair is short, such as the eye/forehead area. Otherwise I'd never find them on my Newfie. I'm sure there's a mouse living in there already

It could be worse though, in certain areas of the continent they carry encephalitis as well as Lyme's

we're now in scotland and the little blighters have attacked our hounds yet again

we frontined them before we come so at least we're finding dead ticks now, not bit meaty things.

thankfully i have the twister on hand and check the hounds every 3 or 4 hours.  i refuse to let it get to the state that we were in after the lakes

home is where you park it
