LOL! We have the luxury of our own indoor loo, but there were campers there with the little zip-up tents with portaloos in - very good idea, I think!  Have loo, will travel!

Yes they have chemical disposal points and fresh water.  It's a lovely site one of our favourites.

We use FC/CCC sites and also have the same problem with receiving confirmation.  However, I have no concerns about this - they receive your booking and they reserve you a pitch, the only bit that seems to fall down is the 'written confirmation' bit.

This has never been an issue for us so why worry?  You have reserved it, you have a booking reference and receipt (ie the reference number and the amount you paid) and this is always enough when we have been away.  They have never been less than friendly and hospitable, and know to expect us.

I have never heard anything negative about their sites - we find them very very cheap, and if they only have a rubbish bin and a water point - well - that's why we go there!

I would just go and not worry about it - I'm sure it will be fine, as I said, we've never had a problem with them.

I was getting worried when reading some of the replies to this thread.  We're looking at going to the Forest of Dean and either Christchurch or Bracelands in October.

All the sites we've previously stayed at (not Forest Holidays) have confirmed in writing with the exception of one.  I have also requested a brochure several times from Forest Holidays via their website and this has never arrived.  They obviously have a problem sending things out using Royal Mail!

Still, as you say you get a booking reservation number so this should be enough.  We're looking at Forest Holidays due to the fact their sites are a lot cheaper and thought we'd give it a go.

Haven't booked anything yet as trying to decide between Christchurch and Bracelands.

We went to Forest of Dean in May at their Woodlands campsite and it was very nice, other than that we usually stay at Matley Wood.

Neither time we had written confirmation - you could always ring beforehand and they'll tell you if they have you on their system - when we were there they knew who they were waiting fr before they could release unused pitches to people who had just turned up on the day, so ther booking system seems OK, just not great at printing it out!!!!

I find them very cheap compared to Club sites, and very peaceful in fab locations.  We also want to try the one at Malborough in Wilts as well.

although i can understand, especially in the circumstances,  the need to be very very sure of the booking; if you can't get written confirmation then i wouldn't write off forest holidays as the sites are so lovely.

I don't know if they are all the same but where we stayed (Hollands Wood) there are no set pitches so even if they can't find you on their system when you arrive (it's not on my screen must be one of the most frustrating things you can ever hear said!) I can't imagine them turning you away.

Sorry Tigerseye but I must disagree with you on this point.

A Saturday night at Holmsley at the end of May was over £23 for us, two adults, one child, normal tent, no hook up, and we had a lot of anti-social problems (this has been done to death on another thread or two) so not really very very cheap.

Agree FH prices have risen quite alot this year.

Booked online to go to Roundhill in August and our written confirmation letter arrived 2 or 3 days later.

phew!!! after reading this, just had to check our reservation. We've booked Ardgarten for 6x nights in September. Haven't received any confirmation and paid deposit at the time. But my booking was there on the C&CC site, so I'm happy. £71.40 for 6x nights for EHU, 2 adults and 2 pets, I didn't think was bad.

Matley Wood is £9 per night in High Season which is almost as cheap as a CL.

If you want cheaper FH sites they are there, Holmsley is one of the more pricey and crowded ones which is why we don't go there!
