Ukcampsite already does this - if you look at the rallies section you will see dozens of rallies across the country all at discounted rates. To benefit just join in!

The two main clubs also do this - CS's & CL's - although their own club sites are becoming expensive!

We are going away over August B.H. to Skegness 4 miles and we are paying £11 a night inc E.H.U. £1extra for awning.

It's costing us £9 a night for the kennels for our dog (jack russel).

So have we got a bargain or are the kennels ripping us off?

No, the kennels we have to use at times charge £15 a night ... we do usually take our dog but use them on occasions when we are out for a long day (wedding etc), but we really like them as they are in the middle of nowhere and take all the dogs off for a long 2-hr walk and run about and they also don't charge us for each full day AND open on Sundays (what a rip off that other kennels refuse to!) - we can drop him at breakfast on Sat morning, collect him at tea-time Sunday and only be charged one day.

Pete & Sarah - have you found you've missed running a site then? I can understand your reluctance with all the new costs & regs for not wanting to run another campsite, and statics do still have their place (small sites that is for us!!!!). Where we live (south Cotswolds) an acre would be a lot more than £10k sadly but like the long-term plan, we'll remember that one!

Most site owners charge a fair price, but as with everything else there are those that do overcharge.      And, as with everyone else, site owners have had to meet rising running cost - which is reflected in the rise in site fees, fair enough.

What I do object to is the rip off merchants.   Things like £15 per pitch, that was just for the camper, then adults were so much per night, childen so much each per night, awning so much, EHU so much,  and then the stinger was about £7 per night for the extra car.  (At the moment, we need the extra car, due to ill health in the family - both side.  Means that one of us could get home in a hurry if need be, while the other stayed with the kids.)   There wasn't anything on site that you could say well yes but you are paying for use of the gym/pool, top class chef cooking your breakfast for you.

We paid a tad over £14.00 per night at two different CC sites in June.

We thought this was OK for a hardstanding and EHU for one night only at each site but we need a full service pitch for any longer and are happy to pay more for this.

In actual fact we paid over £22.00 per night at Polmanter in June for this which we thought quite reasonable considering the area we were in and the facilities provided by the site. Don't know what we'd pay at this time but I just know that it would be significantly more.

Therefore I wouldn't have thought that the £20.00 you refer to is overly excessive.

But all in all it is still cheaper than hiring accomodation and much more fun.

I'm not so sure about that nicnmark.

My fixed costs for the caravan are now running at close on £1000.00 per annum. That is storage - £510.00., insurance £300.00, warranty required service £175.00.

Add into this site fees for four weeks holidays in total and the fuel to get to these places and I for one am seeing very little change out of £1900.00 a year.

With the passing of the years, I'm finding the concept of caravanning more and more of a chore and much less fun and I'm paying out all this dosh for the privilege of it.

Me and "her indoors" are giving very serious consideration as to whether we want to continue. As we don't go away during the peak season, that £1900 would buy us a couple of nice holidays in the sunshine AND we would be waited on hand and foot.

Must say it has a certain appeal..................

We are paying £15 a night this year (including EHU), it has gone up since we stayed there last year, but that is because our youngest has her 5th birthday 5 days before we go, so not free anymore!

I have looked at other sites, thinking I fancied trying somewhere else next year, and some of the prices scared me, it was looking like over £25 a night for a family of 4 with EHU and just the one tent and one car!

How about the sites that charge for DOGS !  I have seen some asking £3 night, I dont know how they keep their faces straight when people pay it. Dick Turpin is dead but he must have left many family members to carry on his trade .
