Is there anyone willing to give me a comparison between the sites of the Caravan Club and those of the Camping and Caravan Club. Someone once told me the latter go about in belt and braces and the former in bow ties. I am a member of the CC, and whilst I like their toilets and washrooms which are always excellent, I do get fed up with hard standings for caravans. This seems to be growing trend. Is the Camping Club any different?
We have just spent a week at Moreton in Marsh, and you need a masonry drill to get an awning peg into the ground. The only guy on site with a hammer was rushed off his feet.

I would think that because the c&cc covers a wider tange of campers there grass alongside the 'vans hard standing. I have belonged to both to put my answer in context. Tents need suitable substrate to peg out -- but then in August in France even "grass" needs rock pegs & a pound hammer. When I have used an awning with a at van or M.home I have been able by careful parking to peg the outer half & weight down the skirts of the bits on hard standing with a brick on the corners & weighty objects midway. Does this help at all ?
Of course on rallies half the time it is on grass with "own San. ess" with both clubs.

We are members of the CC and I can understand your point about there being more and more hard standings......I think it is more to do with us caravaners wanting to caravan all year round and that the weather isn't always sunny and fine and that when it rains and rains most sites have to close due to water logged pitches......I don't think anyone can win either way.
When we stayed at Braithwaite fold we couldn't even get some of our pegs in...solid concrete.......but had no problems at any of the other sites we have stayed at.
We are C&CC members. There are always plenty of grass pitches on their sites. We stayed at Scarborough a couple of weeks ago and even the 'hardstandings' were grass. They had a plastic mesh laid which the grass grows through making the pitches firm but you can still get the pegs in easily.
They do usually allocate your pitch for you but we have quite often been given a choice.
we are members of the C&CClub and whenever we have used their sites we have been given a choice of pitches. If the site has spaces don't accept the first one they show you to.Have a look round and see if there's another one you like better.

Someone once told me the C&CCr go about in belt and braces and the CC in bow ties.
We were in both when we had a van, and I would have agreed with that statement. However, when I said that on here there were more than a few who thought it was the other way round. When it comes down to it, each club consists of ordinary members of the public.
We are members of both. C&CC from our tenting days and joined CC when we got our caravan. Personally i don't think they are much different - it seems not all CC sites are hardstandings. Have just booked West Ayton CC site for October and they wouldn't let me choose to have a hardstanding pitch. To be honest, i would rather have a hard standing with some grass alongside if poss, as our weather always seems to be wet these days and water always seeps up through the breathable groundsheets. CC sites say that groundsheets need to be lifted daily. Can you imagine doing that every day - where do you put your table chairs etc from the awning?
We are in the C&CC club as we joined that 7 years ago when we first got our tent, since getting our caravan we have remained with them but are considering joining the CC as well to give a greater choice of sites.
However is it a case that you have to lift your awning groundsheets daily on all their sites as our 15yr old son usually sleeps in an annex in the awning, and it would be extremely difficult to lift the groundsheet under the annex.
Also are pup-tents allowed beside caravans on CC sites for teenagers to sleep in?

If you read the site details on each site description is states groundsheets must be lifted daily. We too use an annex with a groundsheet for storage. It would be good if someone could say if they actually do this and how the CC ensure this is done.
I think with the CC, groundsheet lifting is probably only for grass pitches. If you are on a hardstanding then usually everything has to be on the hardstanding, including any pup tents. You are best to check with the site regarding pup tents.
