Is there anyone willing to give me a comparison between the sites of the Caravan Club and those of the Camping and Caravan Club.   Someone once told me the latter go about in belt and braces and the former in bow ties.  I am a member of the CC, and whilst I like their toilets and washrooms which are always excellent, I do get fed up with hard standings for caravans.  This seems to be growing trend.    Is the Camping Club any different?

We have just spent a week at Moreton in Marsh, and you need a masonry drill to get an awning peg into the ground.   The only guy on site with a hammer was rushed off his feet.

I would think that because the c&cc covers a wider tange of campers there grass alongside the 'vans hard standing. I have belonged to both to put my answer in context. Tents need suitable substrate to peg out -- but then in August in France even "grass" needs rock pegs & a pound hammer. When I have used an awning with a at van or M.home I have been able by careful parking to peg the outer half & weight down the skirts of the bits on hard standing with a brick on the corners & weighty objects midway. Does this help at all ?

Of course on rallies half the time it is on grass with "own San. ess" with both clubs.

CC:- you choose your pitch.

C&CC:- choose it for you.

Generally, CC pitches are biggar than C&CC pitches !

Not all CC sites are fully hardstanding. Likewise C&CC have their fair share of hard standings.

Sounds like you're a fair weather caravanner Brian if you're fed up of hardstandings, as you'd crave them between October and April !

Were Tent campers so there is no choice ,got to be C&CC

If you think you may like to switch units then its got to be C&CC

We are members of the CC and I can understand your point about there being more and more hard standings......I think it is more to do with us caravaners wanting to caravan all year round and that the weather isn't always sunny and fine and that when it rains and rains most sites have to close due to water logged pitches......I don't think anyone can win either way.

When we stayed at Braithwaite fold we couldn't even get some of our pegs in...solid concrete.......but had no problems at any of the other sites we have stayed at.

I can't comment on the C&CC as we aren't members.

We are C&CC members. There are always plenty of grass pitches on their sites. We stayed at Scarborough a couple of weeks ago and even the 'hardstandings' were grass. They had a plastic mesh laid which the grass grows through making the pitches firm but you can still get the pegs in easily.

They do usually allocate your pitch for you but we have quite often been given a choice.

we are members of the C&CClub and whenever we have used their sites we have been given a choice of pitches.If the site has spaces don't accept the first one they show you to.Have a look round and see if there's another one you like better.

What, you were both walking around in bow ties, belts and braces? Any photos? MT
