Woodclose, Kirkby Lonsdale is a great site.  Just across the road from the river and you can walk over Devils Bridge into the village where there are some nice shops and good choice of pubs.  Can recommend the Orange Tree for a great meal.

There are a raft of reviews for Gibraltar Farm here including one from me - positive I hasten to add. They do pack 'em in and there's no EHU for tents. Nice area though.
Have a look at the C&C Club site at Clitheroe.
This is a nice riverside site within your radius. One of the reasons I like club sites is that they don't pack 'em in!

We're from Manchester too and have just come back from a brilliant weekend (despite the weather) at Laneside Caravan Park in Hope, near Castleton Derbyshire. Just over an hour from Manchester but felt like a world away. Great for the kids. It's placed by a river and got a couple of pubs nearby, but site is quiet at night.

Facilitie sare really good.
