We are thinking about trying this site, has anyone else visited here and what was it like?

I cannot find any reviews for this site and information is quite limited.

I know it is along side the canal and it has hard standing pitches and full facilities but that is about all I can unearth.

Would just like to hear some reviews on the site and surrounding area if anyone has stayed at this site.

Cheers,

Val

Hi Val

I live about 10 minutes (by car, about an hour's walk across the fields and along the canal) away from there. The site is new, I think it has about 10 pitches in total. The area is by the canal, I went past it on a walk quite a while ago and can't remember it very well, but it looked quite nice. There is a shop adjacent to the marina, plus a tearoom. Adlington is a small village, with the usual pubs, which do food, a couple of restaurants, take-aways, a Spar and Co-op and a few other small shops. To enter you come off the A6, go down that road for a few yards and then turn right in to the marina. It is quiet, I don't think you can hear the A6 from there as you are behind all the buildings and it isn't actually on the A6 itself.

It is not far to Rivington Pike, which is popular for walking, and you can also walk along the canal in both directions. Adlington has also devised a circular walk, which is signposted, and is a really nice walk.

Other than that, the town of Bolton is the nearest big town. There is also Wigan and Preston in the other direction. Chorley, which is nearer, is a market town and quite pleasant too. There is a railway station withing walking distance of the marina too.

Anything else you want to know, please ask, and if I know the answer, I'll help.

Hi

My Growler in law lives very near to this site, don't know what the site is like but the surrounding area provides plenty to do.

If you like walking then there is Rivington and Anglzarke moor. If Indian food is your type then there is a cracking place 5 mins walk away. I think there are about 3 pubs and an Italian no more than 10 minutes walk. Southport is around 40 minutes drive away. If you need anymore info then I'm more than happy to pop in to the site and have a butchers

Yes, forgot about that, absolutely brilliant icecream there, all homemade. From the site, turn left onto the A6, and just follow it for about 2 miles, towards Chorley. When you approach the second set of traffic lighs, Fredericks is on your right hand side. You'll probably guess when you are there as there are usually loads of cars parked outside.
Of course, if you are walking, you have to cross the canal from the site, turn right and then just keep on walking until you reach the marked post from the walk I mentioned earlier, that takes you up to the A6 again, the walk turns right, you turn left, walk along the A6 for about half a mile and you are there.
In any case, I'm sure the people at the marina will be able to direct you there, as Fredericks have been there for 'donkeys years'!

Well, how's about this for a coincidence in relation to this post: we came back from holiday yesterday and speaking to my sister-in-law just now, she tells us that they have bought a narrowboat and moored it at .........yes, you've guessed it - Adlington Marina!
We are going to have a look at it sometime over the next week or so, so will have a nosey at the campsite for you at the same time and report back.

Oh that's a coincidence Ina!

Have a look at the pitches will you please?

They were very honest when I phoned up and said the grass at the side of the hard standings was a bit churned up but we don't put an awning up and we have no car to park so we only need the hard standing.

Just have nosey, like you sugggested, and see what you think!

Oh,I fancy an ice cream if it ever stops raining!

Val

Hi Val

Yes, I'll have a nosey for you, it will probably be weekend before we can get down there though.

I might also try out an ice cream for you. Just to make sure they are still up to scratch

Will report back when I've been.

Ina.

Hi Val

Been to the marina earlier this afternoon. The site is at the far end of the carpark, past the chandlers and tearooms and behind the marina.

To be honest, I was disappointed in it, when I saw it last year, we were walking along the canal on the opposite side to where the site is and from there it looked ok, but it was rather obscured then by all the moored boats.

From what I saw walking around the site today, all it is, is a corner at the far end of the carpark (where people park to get to their moored boats), where there is some rough ground, covered with grass, and hardstanding pitches cut out in between. It is far from a nice lawned area in between pitches and the space in between is ok, but not over generous. There were 2 caravans on there, but both would appear to be permanent, as both had huge Calor gas bottles outside their vans. You are at the back of the marina, but in between there were quite a few parked cars, also, it isn't really separate from the carpark, not fenced off or marked off in any other way.

Facilities appear to be shared with the boat users, and are housed at the back of the shop. In all honesty, if I had booked a weekend there, I would be disappointed, but then everybody is different. It depends what you want it for, if it is just to park your van whilst going out on a boat, it's fine. There is also quite a bit of roadnoise from the A6.

Just about half a mile further up from there, again along the canal, is a CL:

Allanson Hall Farm
Westhoughton Road
Adlington
Chorley
PR7 4DG
Telephone - 01257 481057

I think the surroundings there are nicer and it is also a bit further away from the A6, so perhaps less noise. It is a little further into Adlington, but along the canal it would not be that much further to walk.

Anything else I can answer, please ask.
