I looking for a site in the Lakes with easy cycle routes close by. Weve just taken up cycling and want to take the bikes with us, although can only manage easy routes at moment.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

thanks

Hiya. When we stopped at Park Coppice, at Coniston theres an 'easy' cycle route from the site into coniston and think it goes a fair way along the lake.

We went dog scootering on the cycle tracks in between the rain drops LOL in Grizedale Forest. You can buy an information pack from their visitors centre and it gives all the different grades of cycle routes in the forest. Excellent day

Have a look at http://www.sustrans.org.uk/default.asp?sID=1089735289781

Have fun

Hi, There's a flatish off road cycle route down the east side of windermere, best place to start it is at the ferry end, if you were coming off the ferry onto the eastern shore about 1/4 mile up the road there's a sharp left bend and a small road off to the right, there's a free car park down there and great for BBQing on the lake shore aswell.

Otherwise get a OS landranger map and you can cycle on any bridlepath, or unmade road for which there are thousands. A hint.. look at the map contours that will tell you how steep the hills are!!!! something I forget to do!!!

As Janetj says, the park coppice site or coniston old hall site are ok, we've cycled past many times, noticed they are muddy though when wet.

Bowkerstead Farm ,Grizedale Forest would be a good base, only a few miles from the visitor centre who will provide graded route maps in the forest to suit all abilities, also there is plenty of quiet lanes in the area.

There is also a bikeshop at the visitor centre if you have any mechanicals.

The campsite itself is great nice and laidback, allows fires and is close to a pub to rehydrate!

Cycling, beer and camping that will do for me !
