Off to Lowther Park, Penrith in the morning. Looks great - good reviews and you can arrive anytime after 8am and leave the site any time up untill 10pm day of departure. We have a dog so will see how it fairs. Not bad priced and does some great specials - 2nts 3 days for 30 quid.....bargain!!
Parkfoot is an excellent site, went a couple of weeks ago with the kids,toilets/showers etc all good and the pitches were nice and level.Field is not as near to the lake as I had expected but can be accessed easily.
Went to LowtherPark for the week (last week) and had the best time ever...Obviously the weather helped but the site itself is fantastic. River Lowther running right through, kids fly fishing (5 quid for a licence) , walks take you right through the Lowther Estate and the views are breathtaking. The site facilities were spotlessly clean with an abundant of shower cubiles which easily fits an adult and 2 kids with its seperate step down section of the shower. Showers free and well warm! Pub , great beers, meals not mega cheap but great to have on hand if you really can't be bothered to cook, does cheaper versions for takeaway. We stayed on a hardstanding pitch slightly shaded by the trees which was great. My 6 year old was bold over when a cheeky red squirrel decided to run through his legs while he was stood in the woods - amazing!! Loved the walk to the castle and had a fab meal at the Punchbowl in Askham, what a gorgeous village. BMX track for the kids, loads of adventure swings etc and a full fottie pitch - altogether perfic - in fact going back late August. Hmmm i had to think twice about posting the review as half of me wanted to keep this secret - definately the best site we have stayed on so far.
There is a fantastic site in Keswick. Its right on the shores of Derwent Water and about 5/10 minutes walk into Keswick town centre. The sight is peaceful considering its close proximity to the town.
Keswick is a nice little town with everything you need: supermarket, bakers, postoffice, various pubs (The Banks Tavern - highly recommended ), various outdoor shops oh and a tasty Fish & Chip shop.
Nice big grassy site and dogs are more than welcome with a designated 'dog walk area'.
It is a club site (The Camping and Caravanning Club) but the site is open to all.
