As we now have our NOW card bus passes, we would like to find camp sites that have bus stops fairly close for sightseeing, walking, etc.   We stayed at Castlerigg Hall near Keswick in June with a bus stop just down to the road for buses to Keswick, Grasmere, Ambleside and Windermere.  Does anyone know of any other campsites with a bus service near the site that goes to places of interest.  Anywhere in England would do!

We have started to use the buses a lot more since these passes came in - especially for linear walks.

Any ideas, anyone?

Hi Laneside in the Hope Valley (High Peak district) Derbyshire does. It has info on various walks where you can get a bus or train and walk back if you wish. It's a great walking area, very scenic.

My friends own Cumbria Classic coaches - they accept NOW cards.

They do a run on Tuesdays from Ravenstonedale- Kirkby Stephen (picking up at station also) - Hawes and back. They also do Wednesdays Ravenstonedale - KS - Middleton in Teesdale - Barnard Castle and back (for the market days). You get to go in Classic buses (some are TV stars from the likes of Heartbeat etc)

They also have a campsite at Bowberhead, Ravenstonedale.

Unfortunatley not much else in the way of public transport around here - don't know if the Settle-Carlisle line takes NOW cards(?)

Loads of other good walks, days out around this bit of the Eden Valley though.

Ooops I should have said it's still Cumbria - though a different bit to the Lakes (just in case no-one knows where I meant)

Polmanter has a bus right from the site into St Ives from where you can get to pretty much anywhere in West Cornwall from.

Also there is a bus stop in the hamlet of Halsetown, just a short walk from the site.

This might help too, lists sites within 1 mile or less of public transport - info provided by the sites themselves, http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=233

Cheers
