My head is spinning with trying to find somewhere as nice as last  year for two 60 somethings to take two 10-year-olds.  We went to Pencelli in the Brecon Beacons and it was so beautiful and peaceful and yet the children loved it as much as we did. So, really, I wanted somewhere just as beautiful this time but I keep coming across somewhere that looks great only to find there is a busy road beside it or it only has a couple of loos or whatever.I have just stumbled across Parkdean's West Bay camping and touring site and am tempted, even tho' it is totally the opposite of what I have been looking for, because it is near to a beach and has an indoor pool and lots to do if the weather is foul.  I can't find any reviews of it. Has anybody been there and what did you think?  Alternatively, can anybody recommend anywhere more like my original thoughts anywhere in the West? Would so appreciate any advice you can give.

have not been to that Parkdean site, but have been to others. would recommend them highly especially if you've got kids. very clean and tidy sites with lot to do. we've done our parkdean hol this year (at Easter) and the kids still sing the theme tunes to the kids entertainment! a better class of haven/butlins type holiday - that is a positive thing!!

so many sites, too little time!

Thank you Chris Loves Camping and Lunarjohn. I think I will try the West Bay one.  I'm glad that you say it is better than Haven.  We went to the Hafn Y Mor Haven a couple of years ago and, whilst the children loved it, we found it not at all well run - grotty restaurant with dirty dishes left on the tables for ages and filthy loos etc.

So West Bay it is - as long as we can get in! Thank you very much.

Hi Crofter.

We stayed in a static at West Bay Easter 2007. It's a lovely site, not too big with plenty going on. It has a good pool, nice play park and the usual amusments etc. We had a meal in the bar/cafe which wasn't that good but there are plenty of pubs in Bridport and lots of little takeaways round the habour which is only a stones throw away, as is the beach.

We also have a monty 6 and while we were there had a look at the camping area. The showers/washing up area looked nice and clean. The EHU pitches looked a reasonable size but the non-EHU pitches looked a bit small. So it might be worth ringing Parkdean to check your tent will fit on.

Another very nice site we stayed on just up the road from Bridport was Highlands End at Eype and East Fleet which is towards Weymouth both sites can be found on the campsite seach on this website.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everybody.  I'm dithering again this morning - nobody does dithering better than me - as I really love quieter places. Am going to just take a  peek at Highlands End and Eype as the Kirkhams have suggested it.  I know Eype and it is a lovely place. Useful info about the pitch size too, thank you.  If I go for it I shall book hook up if poss even if we don't get fixed up with the equipment in time. If I don't get on with it soon I shall end up with nowhere!
