I'm thinking of taking my children down to Devon for a couple of days with the intention of having a day at River Dart country park. They have a campsite but I was a bit concerned about some reviews that mentioned boggy patches, old loo block & a few unsupervised children in the evening, as it is on the pricey side but that does include the entrance fee. An alternative was camping 30 mins or so away at another site I've been meaning to visit, pay a bit less for the site but then need to drive.
Has anyone been to River Dart so far this year (yes, I've read the reviews before someone helpfully posts the link here!) or care to put my mind at rest about the facilities, children etc.? Thanks!

I went last year in May, just after a wet spell & found no probs with boggy ground where we were pitched. My daughter & her 2 cousins - 8, 9 & 11 absolutely loved the play equipment. Take wetsuits for the kids if you've got them, & be prepared to join in. Excellent site for outdoor fun. I've seen nothing like it before.
Facilities were OK - I can't remember so they can't have been too bad. No probs with kids. Very quiet after 10:00. Warden on site. Might be a bit livelier in season, though?
We live near there - in fact I drove past it yesterday - and it is a lovely site - in good weather you will love it. It is also so close to other great places on Dartmoor so 10 mins in the car and you can be paddling along other stretches of the Dart. Lots of Dartmoor pones and foals around everywhere at the moment too.
Site is busy but spread out and kids can't fail to love it!

Thanks sally, I think I'm more excited at spending the day there than they are! I have decided to camp at the Lydford club site though and use River Dart park for the day from there. The walk to the Gorge is lovely and after a busy day at RD, we can relax in the peace of Lydford - well, I can, hopefully they'll be asleep!

havent been since last year but the kids loved River Dart - never saw them there was so much to do and see, they enjoyed the pool and rock climbing and getting wet - great site for outdoor kids who dont mind getting wet/dirty/ having adventures!
(I think the pool is closed on Saturdays in the summer when they have weddings on)
Hi Chelsea Girl, Yes the pool is closed on Sats but we are going midweek. I intend us to spend the day there and we will all have a great time playing in the Adventure park and getting soaked in the river and playing on all the things there. Mine are 7 & 5 and probably too young for the highwire stuff but we might give the canoeing a go if possible.
