I am currently using a tent, but am considering purchasing a caravan.

Ideally, the caravan should be stored on a site and relocated to a pitch (by the campsite/caravan site owner), as and when I intend to use it.

I'm not sure what I should be searching for on this site in the campsite section, is it 'statics' (I thought those were the very large semi permanent units).

The site I'm looking for will not have any 'clubhouse'.

Can someone please point me in the right direction as to what to search and if in deed I'm expecting too much from a campsite owner.

I was thinking of a fixed storage fee and then perhaps a nightly fee.

Hope to see a response soon as I'm a tad tired of drying my tent out.

Malcombe

You're looking for sites with seasonal pitches, or store and pitch. Many camping and caravanning club sites offer this too. The site listings do show which sites have seasonals, and you can see a list of sites which have included this in their details at http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/articles/view.asp?id=239

Hope that helps

Ian

Have a look here

Just be careful on your charges as a lot of sites will charge for siting and restoring your van.

|Good luck.

Look at Boscrege near Helston. It would help if you could give an idea of the area you are looking at.

Lots of CC sites do exactly what you want. How far away from home do you want to be?

Polmanter near St Ives provides the service you are looking for and surprisingly for the area, I believe the rates are quite reasonable.

Don't quote me on this but I think it's around £350 - £400 per annum with a £10.00 towing fee each time you use the van plus the normal nightly pitch fee according to season.

Vic

Thank you to everyone who has responded.

I now have another problem.... Finding a sesonal pitch 12months within 1 hour drive of Oxford (one with a vacancy). Have tried a few but seemingly have to go on a waiting list. Obviously I can't purchase a caravan without having somewhere to put it.

Any ideas

Malcombe

Try Northey Lodge near Peterborough (on here in campsite search) - they do seasonal pitches and storage, they also have an area where you can wash your vans/motorhomes. We stayed there a couple of years ago, nice quiet site adjacent to the river Nene, and also dog friendly. Not sure if they would tow to your pitch when required but it would be worth asking.

I was at Lobb Fields just outside Braunton, North Devon last week and they had caravans stored there- not sure if they would move van for you but no harm in asking!.We enjoyed the site, friendly and laid back. No club house but walking distance of Braunton.. nice little town, and near fabulous beaches. Sarah x

Inside Park at Blandford Forum in Dorset. Storage is only something like £230 a year. They will tow on/tow off your 'van from storage to pitch, the website has a map and you can choose your pitch.  We are in Glos and it took us 2 hours to get there, you might have a more direct route from Oxford - A34, A303/A30.

Nunnington in West Wittering do this but they have a long waiting list - well they did last year when I spoke to them.

They take the van to the pitch for you also.   I got friendly with a guy down there who had a humungous caravan and they couldn't (or wouldn't) tow his unit for him so he had to do it himself on arrival each year. He used to put it on the pitch at the end of July and stay there until back to school time at the end of August.   Lovely bloke, like part of the fixtures and fittings of the place.

It is a very popular service and I think wherever you go you may find a waiting list exists.
